painting clear tails
#2
Here's what I went with on my rear blinkers.. (see sig)
It's made by Plasti Coat (or something like that) You can get it at Pep Boys (hopefully you have one)
The color is Candy Apple Red (no. 300) and the clearcoat is (no. 307)
The stuff works very well, to speed up the process, have a hair dryer handy to "heat" the lens lightly to cure the paint onto the lens. To get a nice coat, apply about 3-4 coats of Candy apple and use hair dryer in between. Then apply 2-3 layers of clear coat (w/hair dryer) and you're done...
Carefull when spraying the lenses because the paint wants to run down the smooth surface.
Good luck

thanks!
i got the itch to do all sorts of weird crap to my car and painting my 95 all clears to blend smoothly with my 98 stock midsection came to me in a dream (probobly gonna get flamed for it too when i'm done, but i am sick of the plain clears and was planning to go back to the modified stock tails). i really have to get a digital camera, i'll try and borrow my girls camera and post after i am done. i'm gonna have to search for a pepboys, don't ever remember seeing one in NY, if not i'll try somewhere else. can anyone help on a pepboys location in New York 5 boroughs area?

Victim64.. here is what I meant..
Sorry, in the sig pic it looks like stock and is difficult to see. Here is the original picture. What I meant is that if you want to paint the turn signals, that's how you do it. No you do not have to remove the tailight section to paint it.. just mask off everything around the blinker with newspaper and tape... hopefully that clears the confusion

thanks
thanks CKNY for the info, i actually found a pepboys near my girls house in queens and looked up on their website for locations and there are a ****load of them all over new york, i just never knew, i gotta get out of this rock i am under... as for my lights, i have a 98 max and i put the 95-96 clear tails in. i plan on painting the top half of the lights red, but angle it somewhat to blend with the red from the stock middle lights. hopefully i can get to do this on the weekend, i'll post pics when i am done, installing my kit tomorrow too!
thanks guys!

Some help tips.. SINYMaxSE
Be light on the first coat, putting too much on or spraying too slow will cause the paint to build up and run down.
I have noticed that with a translucent paint like the candy apple, you don't get the patch effect if you spray as if you were "touching up" an area if you know what I mean.
Good luck

Victim64 and others, I think what he meant by painting the blinker was simply painting over the factory orange housing. PiotC70, I think we wanted to know how to paint the clear tail lights red on the bottom to make them have that European tail light look.

EBAY
FWIW I found some taillights on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cg...item=558301440
It starts at 175.00, and he says he's the only one that makes em and sells em to the public.
Seemed interesting. I found this looking for cheap clear bumper lights for my '96.
