Another 5th Gen Turbo Install Complete...first impressions.

Sup Fellas,

Install took about a week and its finally done. Shout to PM Motorsports in Queens NY... they were instrumental in helping me get the job done. I went with the PFI kit... Nig & Bill thanx for your help, and patience.

Still have a little more work to do but the car is now road worthy and all the major work has been completed. Oil cooler stil has to go in, EGT & A/F gauges and some adjustments need to be made to the IC setup because it sits a bit low now. No electronics yet either. The Apexi TT & Boost Controller are in the mail and the S-AFC is sitting here waiting for the others. I'll put them in all together next week.
3' Catback? Dont know what to do yet but I'm taking suggestions.

During the install we also took the opportunity to install the Walbro fuel-pump that I've had sitting at home for over a year,(the sound it makes is cool I think!!) re-install my Unorthodox UDP which I had to take out when I had the SC(which is now sold). I went w/the T4/60-1 Turbonetics turbo. Things came out pretty good because we took our time and took the liberty of doing a bit of custom work as well to get everything just right. Pics to come soon!

Today is the first day I drove it... picked it up on the way home from work and got to open it up a bit on the parkway. Since I have no boost controller yet, we manually set the turbo to 5lbs of boost for now. The difference between turbo and SC having experienced both in my 5th Gen is TREMENDOUS!!! At 5lbs it pulls harder than it ever did w/the SC. I am very satisfied right now and the car isnt even really tuned yet! Its great to actually feel some noticeable low end torque finally...and to all of you who said the t4/60-1 would have too much turbo lag... I DONT THINK SO... I would have to guess since I have'nt driven a t3/t4 or t04e that the lag difference between those and the 60-1 would be very minimal. I guess all the other mods may have something to do w/it but the car still pulls hard even before you hit boost at about 3500-4000rpm. I honestly could'nt feel any noticeable lag. Then again... I was so giddy driving it, I was'nt thinking about much of anything except feeling the extra power. This is my 1st impression so, I'll have to drive again tomorrow and start to nit-pick and give a better description of what going on. So far so good though...

thats awesome, wonder what its going to be like at 10psi or so
im really happy the turbo scene is getting bigger, although i dont ever plan to get one on my current maxima, it definatly adds a lot to the aftermarket potential of maximas

i think thats the turbo i will be going with.. (t4/60-1) sounds ideal for what im looking for. like you said though take it for another spin and judge the spool up/lag and at what grand on the tach.. anyway sounds bad ****. have fun.

Exactly, that's the key item.
Also 5psi boost on a T3 is different than 5psi boost on a T4 taking in consideration it's the same motor. Efficiency is a cool thing

Thanks guys...

Thanks to everybody who shouted me out... Being amont the first to turbo as the other guys will tell you, there will be some issues to iron out but we'll try to collaborate and get this thing right for all of you who are interested.
I have the PFI kit. Nigel (Turbo97SE) posted yesterday that the price for his would be along the lines of $3750 for the IC'd kit. I'm running the 60-1 and I forgot the specs on the back housing...I'll get back to you guys on that. But thats right Kev, I dont notice any significant lag yet. I drive a Merkur XR4TI everyday and those come stock w/a T3 turbo. I'm not noticing and big difference in terms of lag!! Today its raining heavily in NY so I probably wont get to test drive it until Saturday and I'll give a more detailed critique. I love the finished product... Kudos to PFI for developing the kit for us.

Any noticable "holes" in the kit. Stuff that did not fit correctly or needed "adjustment"?

Also, did you get to keep your foglights?

nice~

I had a ride in Kevin's car with 5lb of boost and it alread pulled stronger than his SC'ed with 2.87. (5spd)

when he adjusted to 9 lb of turbo....it was too fast for me to handle.

time for dyno, eh?
