Kill a car low end, Lose top end???
Kill a car low end, Lose top end???
Tonight I raced a car for money, I thought it was going to be an easy win....this kid clams to be Honda S2000's in a Lincoln Mark VIII LSC!!!
Well i raced him and i killed him off the line, to 80 i had 3-4 cars on him, then i lost all momentum and the 4 car lead just held....till about 120...he started to come back and then passed me at 130
Is that posable? I asked him if he was spraying and he said no. He clamed to only have a shift kit and tampered gear ratio.
Now yes I know I killed him in the 1/4 well passed high way speeds too, but where did all the power go? Is the maxima really that week top end?
Oh yeah, by the way im a 96' Nissan Maxima, with 5 speed, full intake, Ypipe, and cat back.

Wait, did you just say he said he had an S2000 engine in his Lincoln.. if that was true, then a golf cart could take him off the line.

The Lincon Mark VIII had a 300 hp 32-valve V8. So yeah, that's pretty much expected. You expereinced the typical loss in power up top of a 4th gen without a variable intake. If 0-130 mph is the kind of "enthusiastic" driving you're used to, then the MEVI is absolutely the mod for you
I raced a friend in an Aurora once. The Oldsmobile has a 250 hp V8. I left him easily all the way to 110 mph, and then he slowly but surely started reeling me in. We had to shut it down at about 120 when he had almost caught up, but I really got to feel the limitation of the VQs fixed intake manifold then.

Or is that just some of em?
And where in the heck did you have space to get a 0-130 mph race in?

And I live in FL, here we have looooong flat stright roads every where
if you street race you are going to encounter this often. a lot of big v8 sedans and such will get walked by you upto near 100 or so, and then all that hp starts to really do what it should have at 30. without a mevi our 4th gens run out of power up top, still good pull, but all that extra 110 hp he has over you wont go into effect until about 80mph
Yup. I think it is by design, too. Compromise and sacrifice ultimate 1/4 mile performance to make it the ultimate freeway flyer. The Q45, LS430, STS etc have lots of hp, but tend to really shine in autobahn mode.

I think everyone is wright with the MEVI.
Do you guys know if the MEVI alone would help the 4th gen maxima on the high way agents cars like that even without the ECU and higher rev limiter?
The 4th gens I know around here can hit ~150mph.. (those are 97 SE 5 speeds)
I've only hit 141mph in mine, and between 130mph and 140mph it really started to creep along.
You just need more horsepower to overcome the drag.

Yes, because at high gears, you spend more time up in the top of the RPM range....from 100 up is where the MEVI kicks the most azz.
