Hi All... I just moved in SF and work in San Jose.
I used to live in NY and the car has a good mechanic
over there. Does anybody know a good shop
around town? Also, I keep hearing about his Smog
test? Are they simillar in NY? Can anyone recommend
someone to get my car inspected without giving me
any problems? I have a few mods.. like greddy/rt cat/
stillen pop intake. I took out the ypipe/cai just before they shipped my car to cali. I need help basically...
I have to register the car soon in california. Thanks.

You asked the right question at the right place.

I take my car to Tak's Auto Repair in San Francisco. Address is 280 15th Street. You can look up the phone number in the yellow pages.

Tak is a great mechanic. He's a rarity nowadays...an honest mechanic who does not rip you off and does not perform unnecessary "repairs" if they are not needed. He specializes in Toyotas, but will work on any Japanese car. His prices are very reasonable and he will use OEM parts if you request it. If you do goto Tak tell him Eric Lee recommended you and send me an email about your experience at his shop.

As for passing smog...well, I've never had that problem before since my car isn't due for its first smog check yet. I'm not sure Tak will cheat the visual inspection for you, but if you take the car in and ask him if it will pass visual, he will either tell you yes or no without making a big deal out of it.
