Got Smoked!

HAhaha...

by what? a CL-S

It was a 6-speed. Very nice cars they are. Who says they don't have torque?

Either way we raced at a non-disclosed location.

First run, he just flew by me while I wasn't looking and I caught up without downshifting.

Next run we started off more or less side by side, I kept it in 3rd at about 4500 rpm and he downshifted to second and spun his tires. He got quite a jump on me and I was playing catchup the whole way.

Finally we raced from a stop. I gave it a gentle launch and he dropped the sucker and floored it. Put quite a distance on me in the first 60", I started catching up in second gear (but was spinning a lot), but then we shifted to third and he started distancing himself near the end of the gear and flashed his hazards at about 2 car lengths ahead of me. I then flashed my highbeams to concede the victory.

Conclusion? Well, I would basically start reeling him in a LOT at the beginning of each gear with his top end putting a stop to that at the end of each gear.

He was obviously very willing to beat the crap out of his car to win, which is more than I like to do for a casual race. Also, he didn't want to pull nose to nose with me and then go from a roll, it was always whoever jumped it first.

Would have been nice to get a even race going, but not practical without better communication. I tried to get him to roll down his window after the first run, but he didn't until after he beat me. I asked him if he had headers, he said 'stock'. I was like 'riiight' i'm stock too.

All in all it was fun. I wish he would have been more talkative so I could have thanked him for the race. Next time I won't hold anything back for CL-S, they have earned my respect. It is definitely a driver's race and this time, he was the better driver.

Notes for the future:
They are definitely scary TOP-END cars, esp with headers. I will try to use my low/midrange torque advantage better next time.

I have beat 6-speed CL-S's before, I guess I just ran into the wrong driver this time
