relay check how ..!!

Hi Guys,
I have a 93 Maxima SE. I wanted to check one of relays in there works or not..

it is a blue one... it has four pins and I guess it is normally open. and numbers i see on the relay are
1 - 2
3 - 5

I have the FSM and it says if I supply current to 1 and 2 then 3 and 5 should be closed (or pass continuity test)

I have access to 12 volts power supply.. (at work) and a multimeter.

I want to know how can I test this..? Should I just connect 1 and 2 to 12volts power supply and check continuity between 3 and 5..?

How long do these relay last...?

I will appreciate your reply...

Looks like these right

Close. You need to supply +12V to either 1 or 2 (it doesn't matter). Then supply ground to the terminal you didn't use i.e. if you put +12V on 1 put ground on 2.

I have access to 12 volts power supply.. (at work) and a multimeter.

Wire it up as I stated above. You'll hear the relay click when you put +12V and ground on 1 and 2. You should have continuity between 3 and 5 when the relay clicks. If you don't hear clicking then your relay is probably bad. If you don't have access to +12V I use 9 Volt batteries all the time to check things like relays (9 volts is close enough to check to make sure something works).

How long do these relay last...?
A long time. Most people never have to replace relays as they're pretty simple internally

1) 12V supply to pin 1.
2) ground to pin2.
3) check continuity across 3 and 5 with ohmeter.

You should be able to hear the relay make a clicking sound when you energize it with the 12V source.

an easier way to test is just swith the relay in place of another blue relay for a system that you can easily check - parking lights, horn, whatever

Huh. Simple, but elegant. I like it.
