I have a 98 SE 5sp and i don't think it's that fast of a car from low end but at top end it's a different story..it accelerated great from 80 and up..

I just want to know what's so restricted on these cars compared to a 95/96...and can it be changed.. can this be eliminated to make it feel more like a 95 or 96...???

What mods are needs to get rid of this..New CAT..Y pipe???

Need some input here cause honestly i think the max is not that fast of a car!! and im a bit dissapointed with..

Also my throttle response seems a bit sluggish..what can be done to help this out besides throwing a CAI in there..Thanks for the input boys...peace

There's nothing different about the 97-99 than the 95-96. The 95 is the overall fastest and has OBDI software, the 96 on up has OBDII. Other than that, there shouldn't be any thing else holding up your Maxima. What kind of car are you coming from?

 

used to drive a 90' Z24 Cavelier...it was pretty quick for an auto with over 140K on it..

what is that type of software you are talking bout the obdI and obdII...can you switch from one to another...just a thought...

do you think that your cavailer was faster to 80 mph than the max ? defitnetly throw what ever engine mods your pockets allow each mod will complement the next.

 

i don't think the cavelier was faster than the max by any means...but i am a bit dissapointed wiht the speed of the max..i test drove a 97 white se 5sp and then the 98 black se 5sp..the 97 did seem faster but i just thought it was my mind playing tricks on me..i also got the 98 cause i wanted black..im going to have to hook up the CAI and the Y PIPE next..do you think i will notice the difference..im hoping..

Look at your exhaust just after the catalytic convertor. If their is a short cast iron extension that is twisted looking with the O2 sensor mounted in it you will benifit from replacing this piece, it is quite resrictive. Some Maxima's have it, some dont, I cant tell you what years cause I dont know, just look under your car. Several others have replaced this piece with a straighter piece of tubing and noticed a gain. You could do this in cunjunction with the Y-Pipe.

 

ill loook for that mardigrasmax...maybe i can do something about that..is it something you have to replace...if so give me some tips on what to replace it with and how...im not the mechanic type...just want to make the max fast as possible...how is your gxe with cai and y pipe...notice some gains..what are you 1/4 times if any..0-60??? just wondering how the gxe is ....????

Yes you will have to replace it, a muffler shop can do it for cheep. CAI and Y are noticable, get them! No 1/4 or 0-60 times clocked for my car. GXE is the same as the GLE and SE, one fast V6 4DR!

 

All I got to say is fork over 4G's and get the SC and don't look back,that what I am doing in a few weeks anyways.Ohh yeah if your concerned about the o2 sensor port in the B-Pipe which someone said is qiute restrictive then give courtasy nissan or stillen a call and get a high performance B-Pipe.

 

let me pull that 4G out of my ****..real quick..

another question though??? with all new exhaust...inluding..CAI, Y, B pipe are all maximas regardless of the year pretty much the same speed..?? ive been working some OT this week so the Y and CAI should be coming soon..mwauahahahha...come and get some!!!

If you look at modded 4th gen's{with the same mods} they all seem to pull the same 1/4 mile time.

 

could always get a ligher flywheel.... if you do alot of hwy drivin it will ruin gas mileagle tho... and car wont drive nearly as smooth.... but youll gain that bottem end!

 

The Courtsey does not replace the O2 housing. I believe the Stillen does, but it has no resonator and is a little louder.
