Engine Stand Question
Anything special needed in an engine stand for a VQ30? Will any one do (assuming its rated for enough weight)?

I don't think you need anything special. Those stands are clearly rated high enough weight wise. Kevina is right about the hoist thing. You will need one to take the engine out and to lift it up high enough to get it on the stand. But since you're not doing any "serious" work on the engine why get one anyway? Just rent/buy a cherry picker(hoist) and work on the engine that way.

Thanks Jeff.

I worked on mine with the engine just sitting on a pallet. But when I needed to get the oil pan off, I just cranked up in the air(dad has a pulley system in the rafters).
Question. How are you going to replace the rear main seal with the engine on the stand?

Good point. I didn't know which end the stand connects to (front, rear), but I assumed it was the rear. I guess that would make that tough, huh?
Regardless, I'm going to look into renting/buying both. I knew any hoist would work, but didn't know how the stands "worked".

the stand have "legs" that goes into the tranny bolt holes at the rear of the engine. pretty much it..then you can turn it and flip it over and etc.

So now my question is...are those bolt holes universal, or are the stands adjustable?

depending what kind of stand u have..u might need to buy long bolts to or you may be able to get away with using the tranny bolts.
adjustable...they usually just turn..the legs are adjustable on where it bolts up to the motor.
