Went to a lube stop for an oil change today. I supply the oil and filter. The damn filter was sooo tight, we had to unscrew the filter relocation kit and drop the fiter down under the car and it still took 2 men 10 minutes to finally unscrew it. Has anyone else had a similar experience? The last time it was changed was at infinti of scottsdale. What the hell did they do???

That's the reason why I change my own oil. You can save a ton of money doing it yourself. Why pay someone to do the easy stuff when those money can go towards more mods

Doing ones own oil changes
I don't know about the rest of you people, but I find that paying someone $20.00 to go under the car and drain the oil and dispose of it and fool around with the filter and get dirty is well worth the bucks!!! I'll just remember the next time to remind them to oil the gasket and hand tighten the filter.
How do other people feel about this??

I change my own oil to adjust for the money I spend on Mobil 1 synthetic, but I find it's not so much about the money. It usually have the time to do my oil, but if you work and have no time I'd say have it changed. 20 bucks isn't much on the whole, but it's a few meals if I change my oil myself

i agree 20 dollars is cheap to have your oil changed properly. with good oil and filter. i always change my oil before it gets to cold outside. then i will change it when it gets warm again, about 3 months. i like to change my own oil because it makes me feel good. and i will have some extra money for new mods. i always spend about 50 bucks for an oil change. i like redline. it makes the turbine purrr. big bucks. my mom got her oil changed at one of those shops and it cost her 169.00. of course i called up and asked about this new technique of cleaning the transmission fluid. which was about 70-80 bucks! this machine is supposed to clean the fluid and the filter. man, can you trust any body?
I dont know about you guys, but>>>
It takes me about 10-15min to change my oil. I try to get every single last drop of oil out the pan, I even at times will jack the car up on the opposite side of the drain plug to tilt the car. But, if I do someone else car it's in and out in 5-mins, weird isn't it.
I don't trust anyone to change my oil, but myself. They take shortcuts. They don't drain it fully, don't change the drain plug washer, overtighten the plug, overtighten the filter. It doesn't take me long to change my oil and I have a recycling container that I take to the county landfill and dump the oil there. (Free of charge)
I think it's easiest if you buy a set of ramps to do oil changes. It leaves plent of room to work under the car, and its faster than jackstands. I like to let my oil drain for a least 20 mins, so that adds to my oil change time. As far as changing my tranny fluid I've done that too
It really isn't that hard, and it's definately worth saving the $$$. Redline is expensive enough w/o spending 160 for the labor. In fact, the hardest part of the tranny fluid change was finding the drain plug :P

Remember if you change your own oil, it gives you the opportunity to check for other stuff also. ie.. oil leaks, cv joint condition, belt condition etc... That's usually how I find out if the cv boots are torn or not.
