Strange sound from engine bay*video*

Alright, there has been this strange sound from the engine bay right near the firewall that has been getting to me. I was told a couple times that it could be a loose y-pipe, but I just want to make sure.

Its not to big a download Right click, Save As.. (3mb)

It could be a loose y-pipe, leaking EGR Gasket, Leaking IAVC gasket, etc....Also, check all your hoses up there for any loose connections...

this is only audio right?

well from what I hear, it sounds exactly how my friend's old volvo sounded like... is it hella loud when driving?

He had a hole in his TB actually, but in your case it's probably an exhaust leak for sure...

My celica made a sound like that when part of the welding that held the pipe to the muffler broke away.

Audio and video..

I hope its just something simple like leak in the y connection. Just tighten it up.

I had a similar noise when I had a busted y-pipe stud, on the rear bank. You may have a loose nut, or a broken stud.

same sound here !!!!!!

gtr_rider - does this happen only with cold engine on cold days on start-up and after things get wormed up it's not audible ????
I have same exact sound coming from the same location - I'm suspecting carbon build up in the intake mainfold - there was a thread about that while back where there was TSB on some Toyota .

I believe that was a cold start, and you can still hear it warmed up. Strange. I'll try searching for that thread

Hmmm, first of all have you had your y-pipe removed and re-installed recently of it just happened. I had the same noise (not that loud) a while ago when I installed my y-pipe. Turned out the gasket between the manifold and y-pipe on the firewall side had slightly poped out of placed when I installed it. 2days later I took it apart and threw it back together again and everything was just fine, no noise what so ever. Might just be a bad gasket but sounds much larger then a bad gasket, did the noise start off some time ago and got louder and louder as time went on?

I never removed the y-pipe, maybe the dealer did some time ago, but I dont recall. I only recently(couple months) noticed the sound, and its been the same level of noise since the day I noticed it. I'll probably give it a check today.

Well im still leaning toward the cracked gasket between the y-pipe & manifold. It just seems weird to that its that loud, its definetly a exhaust leak but damn.

hmm sounds a leaking PCV (I think thats what they are called) hose or a hose. I had that problem before on my old car and after I checked the problem was that I has disconnected a hose that ran to the canister. Much older car but still the same sound. check for cracked hoses around your fuel, intake, and emissions system.

I checked out most of the hoses from the top view and I dont see anything unusual, I will have to go underneathe tomorrow and my dad is almost positive that its an exhaust leak.
