spark plug in the muffler????

ok guys never heard of this before but one of my friends says that if you put a spark plug in the muffler like hooking it up and stuff and give it spark when your running your car you are going to get the flams that shoot out of your exhaust. Now i have no clue about this but is this true

not sure about newer cars (because of the cat?) but I worked with a guy who had an older pickup (probably early '80s) and yes, it did work.

I believe back in the old hot rod days, people ran their engines rich(intentionally or just happen'd to be that way) and the spark plug could be used to ignite the rich exhaust to produce flames....

Also, OT...

There's also propane kits that you can buy.. basically just shoots flames out the exhaust without running ridiculusly rich (which is a good way to destroy your cat I believe). That'd be what you see in 2f2f most likely,(the propane kit) that or it might just be added in digitally

Any kit that doesn't come with an outside fuel supply is going to cut spark to the engine to get the raw fuel down to the muffler... it will destroy your cat in no time.

On the show "Trucks" on TNN, they actually showed how to do it properly. It was pretty cool.

If you had an old big block with no cats then if works pretty good, just rev it up and while the rpms are going back down, flip the switch and just like that you got 10-15ft flames shooting out the exhaust. This would be a bad @ss mod to have when some idiot starts to tail you too closey. Just when he gets right to your bumped, floor it and light that son b!tch up! I think this is why its not legal, id be lighting things up all the time.

It will work on fuel injected cars too, but only if no cat converter is present. Depends more on how well tuned the engine really is. There is a bronco at my shop right now with a built 429 cobra motor and you can see the moisture in the exhuast shooting out those side pipes, that thing at idle is flowing more cfm of exhuast then my car would at redline
Mmmm I love the sound of a big block with flowmasters

Well your car still isnt pumping out enough HP to have enough unburned fuel running though the pipes. I say no more then 1-2ft fireballs if you do it. Your gonna have to put 1 plug in each tip, if you put just 1 plug right at the base of the muffler then most the the fire is gonna stay in the muffler. If you wanna try it then be my guest, but dont comlpain when your rear bumper starts to melt.
