help! my tire rubbed off a gaping hole on my plastic fender

Today on the highway I heard I loud whirring sound and I knew immediatly what happened. The plastic fender covering my cold air intake came loose and was rubbing againt my wheel. Now my filter is completely visible through the hole in the plastic fender! Should I be worried about water getting on the filter now, since it is completely visible? SHould I try and cover it with something? Or just enjoy the added air flow?

souldnt be too hard to fix get a piece of plastic about the size of teh hole and rivet it on or use epoxy to cover it up. CAI right? I wouldnt think its a good idea to have the filter expose like that for everyday driving except for at the track since it will put wear on the filter fast from rocks, sand, rain water road junk ect...

I would duct tape it for the time being, untill you replace it. Also you need to figure out how to stop it from happening again.
BTW that a nice hood ornament you've got there

Yeah, but doesn't she look a little small? Or the car is huge maybe?? Maybe I'm wrong.

Same thing happened to me when I tried the JWT pop intake on the PRCAI. Paid about $55 from a nissan dealer. DAVEB should be able to beat that by a couple bucks.

same thing happened to me. when i installed my CAI many months ago, i didnt properly secure the plasic part and it came loose on the highway. i had a 4inch hole in it. its very bad to have your filter exposed like that, because too much dust and especially water will hurt your engine. so i for the time being i just spray painted some duct tape black and put it on, works good until i get around to replacing it.

Me too. Trouble is, we have to tread the fine line between "tasteful" and "banned".

dont worry about water from the hole, your CAI is probaly sucking up water either way. I removed my lower pipe to clean and found lots of water stains and RUST inside. Now I just use the upper pipe and filter on the MAF!
