Adjustable Coilover Question?

Adjustable Coilover Question?
Hello Everyone
I have never had a lowered vehicle so I don't know alot about them. I assume the technology has come a long way in recent years.
When they say adjustable coil overs what exactly does that mean? Maybe someone can explain a little about what that means.
I assume it means you can adjust the ride height, but what are the impact of adjust the coil overs all the way up or down?
Does it mean if one day I need lots of clearance I can crank them up and if the next day I want to drag around I can?????
Do I need an alignment each time I adjust them?
Any insight you can lend will be muchly appreciated..
Also, any suggested brands?
Thanks in advance

im not an expert in this field, but most coilovers you cab adjust from stock height to a 3" drop. Traditionally coilovers are know for being very stiff (to make up for the lack of acctual spring). You do not need to alignment, you just to jack up each wheel to adjust. Ground Control make a good cheap coilover, but is known as being one of the stiffest out there. just do a search on them to find out more about them.
hope that helped,

Actually you will need to realign everytime you adjust, if you don't want your tires wearing funny. Toe-in,out needs to get set again. And everything else you'd want to know about coilovers is here:

JIC's are 15-Way adjustable coiloever. So you can basically change the dampening from 1-15. Softest to Stiffest. The height is also adjustable. I believe you can drop it lower then 3" though. And on these the spring rate does not change like on other coilovers

Okay, the alingment on our cars isn't that much of an issue. My tires don't wear funny, and I'm down 3". If you get ground controls, you can specify what spring rate you want. I'm not sure what someone mentioned about JIC's spring rates not changing? There are "2" types of springs. Progressive springs and non-progressive springs. Most coilovers have non-progressive springs.
