Rewinding alternator?

i was on this other forum asking about capacitors and they told me its basically useless and does more harm on the alternator than good. I guess thats a big topic over my head, my main concern is strengthening my present alternator.

They said, and i quote:

"you can't rewind an alt yourself. basically, theres the belt of your alt, which spins magnets inside against copper windings and creates mechanical energy (electromagnetic induction), which is how it powers your car. when you get it rewound, the extra windings create more surface area for induction to take place, which results in higher amperage. autozone will have no clue what you're talking about, and they'll just suggest you buy a whole new alt. call around some local alt shops and see what the prices are, it should be around 1-4$ per amper."

is this true?

and are capacitors really worthless?

No no Mecca, take it to a shop that specializes in VCR's, they do the best job with rewinding stuff. Just call one until you find a place that will do it for ya.
