I think I over oiled my K&N filter...and I'm afraid to put it back on the car....I've heard some horror stories about messing up the throttle body from over oiling the filter (I don't know if it's true or not, just what some people told me)...is there anything I can do...or do I just have to wait? The oil is pooling a little on the plastic edges...

thanks for your help

I wouldn't worry about it. Just put it in and go down the road.

Don't worry about it. I think I overoiled my filter before and nothing bad happened. Just install it, start the car...it may stall, but will definitely start the next time. Then drive.....drive.......(saying that William Shatner style)

I don't see what the problem is. When I oil my filter I let it sit for a while and the excess tends to slowly run out of the filter. Once it stops dripping I install the filter. We're not talking about a drop in filter are we, I'm referring to the CAI type, A cone or cylinder filter.

Uhhhhh...I wouldn't put the filter in if it's over-oiled. Why? Because the oil can possibly coat the MAF filament wires and could cause some headaches with thrown codes and poor running.

I recommend taking a few paper towels and apply some firm pressure on either side of the filter to accumulate the excess oil.

Try re-washing the filter, then re-oil, hopefully not over-oiling it.

I 100% agree w/ these other guys. Do NOT put that filter in. Re-wash it, let it dry and then PROPERLY re-oil it. Read the instructions on how to re-oil the filter. ONLY ONE pass on each upper pleat. Let it sit for awhile and then gently re-oil any white spots you missed. Too much oil will greatly increase your chance at damaging the maf sensor.

use the blue mechanics paper towel to absorb some of those extra oil from the inside
oh heck .......
just re do the whole process and hopefully you'll score the second time..that is safest...
how do you know you over oiled? was it soaking and drippin?
I usually let the filter sits there for a day after oiling...and whatever the element can not retain should be dripping on the floor...
then I wipe wipe with the towel
but then again...I have the cone intake and my modified box intake
hehehehe....

Take the extra time to redo the whole cleaning

process. It's better to be safe than sorry, right?
Good luck!

Well I let it sit over night...

and the oil isn't accumulating like it was last night..it now looks uniform with no excess. I put it in and drove to school today and (knock on wood) nothing has happened, well except for a better feeling of throttle response...man, that filter was dirty. Thanks for all the input guys.
