Also, given that it has the appearance of a new home in the United States of Generica, you probably can't do a dang thing to the garage because of the CCRs and homeowner association rules. Best double check all of that before you plop down any cash on a home in a newer subdivided neighborhood.

The house is in unincorporated Maricopa County, and I already checked the zoning laws and spoke with the housing development. - there's no rules against those modifications.
Apparently, it's already been done in that neighborhood by someone. When i visit in a few months I'm going to ask if we can go check it out with the owner's permission.

That is definately a 450k-700k home over here depending on the neighborhood. Only thing you can get for 150k here is a studio apartment in the ghetto

I guess the other thing we are forgetting that gets factored in to the house is the school system, township, and even an intangible such as prestige and distance from cultural stuff (museums, pro sports, historical bldgs, bars, college girls, etc.). The dude that sat next to me at the Waldorf said his house was about a mil and it was a POS--Rye, NY.
Where the Navy Yard used to be near the stadium in Phila., they are building new row homes. I hear they'll be about 200-250k--you could take 3 row homes and place them inside of the dude's house in AZ. And there is a 4.4% City Wage Tax in Phila. to boot, not to mention the car insurance.
I'd be curious to see what the salaries are like in AZ, also, what's the quality of living, esp for people in their 20's. How are the girls, what are they like. it's the whole package--you can't expect imho to earn a Boston salary in AZ, so if all you get is a new house well it may not necessarily be better. my .02 but again I strongly urge every single person on this forum to look into buying a home--don't be the last to show up at the party when the bottom falls out.
I certainly will be throwing a big azz party soon, after all my crap is out of the apartment and up in the house. Still gonna clean the carpets before the heavy furniture goes in, all else is gold. Shame about the riced out Civic next door, but we all can't have taste
