Today, I decided to get some new front brake pads (Bendix) and I figured I'd install them since the wife was out of the house for a few hours. All the other cars I've installed brakes on (Z28, Cobra, Accord, CRX, Tahoe) required taking the caliper off the spindle and popping out the brake pads. This required some pretty good wrenching to bust loose the caliper bolts and about 1.5 hours of install time on the average. The Max is entirely different. I got the new pads and opened up my shop manual. All it said I needed to do was undo the lower caliper bolt and the caliper will swing up giving access to the pads. I thought to myself.."it ain't that easy". The bolt came off very easily the caliper swung up like it was suppose to and there were the pads...just sitting there. No more bloody knuckles. No more "snaking" the pads into place as you lowered the heavy caliper back on the rotor. I started laughing to myself because all I could think about was those Sunday afternoon auto-shows where they make every job look so easy (ie swapping in a 420 cubic inch big block over lunch). This was one of those jobs. Overall, the job took me 25 minutes. I commend Nissan on their design and ease of service.

The fronts are not too hard but the rear is tricky in disconnecting the lever that's holding the ebrake to the caliper, at least it was for me anyway.

E brake

True True. That E brake gets me pissed every time. Especially re-connecting it. But its better than doin the brakes on my tahoe.

springy thing for the anti-rattle device? I thought the spring is there to make sure the e-brake line pulls snug against the caliper. When I did the brake I had to take off the nuts mounting the level before i could jiggle the e-brake line out, then done I had to use the clamp plier to twist the bolt so things line up when putting it back together..pain in the butt!

The spring I'm referring to is on the front brakes, I think it's either for anti-rattle or to keep the pads off the rotors when the brake is not depressed. I just had a hard time getting it back in there.
