5speed auto from 6th gen in other gens?
i know some of yall are saying why convert to auto, well i think is more convienient to some people. since the 4speed auto that the previous gens used are being used on hte 3.5vq, wouldnt that mean that hte 5speed auto will bolt right up. only issues i can think of would be the tranny comp working with hte ecu and maybe the gated shifter(if installed). the advantage of a 5speed auto would be a better use of hte power band since the gears would be shorter then a 4speed. it would make our cars much faster, look at a 99tl and a 00tl 0-60 times. so if we can do the swap, how much would it cost and would it be worth it?

wouldnt be worth it IMHO, it is kind of pointless..im not positive but like 9 out of 10 of the fastest maximas are stick..so until we can make our cars so fast we cant adequately shift them ourselves..just do a 5 or 6 spd conversion.

Auto and fast are not mutually exclusive as we all know. You don't need to go 5spd to be fast, vb mod it race style and boost and you'll still be mighty damn quick. Many other cars are faster in the 1/4 auto anyway. I'm just all about rollin so I dig the auto

People don't post unless you have anything useful. I heard that the gears on the 6th gen Auto are great. If you could find a tranny cheap I think it would be worth it, I would not mind doing it I hate my automatic. I think you would just keep the automatic shell from the forth gen and just switch the insides. I don't think you would have to do anything to the ECU but I am not sure.

thnx for replys
also having a fith gear would make us almost has quick as five speeds beacause each gear is shorter and if u got vb mod done on the 5 speed auto, i think u might be equal or faster then a stick

I heard that the drive by wire throttle will make things very complicated. I remember seeing a thread where a guy with a 5th gen 3.0 wanted to put in the 5th gen 3.5 6-speed in his car. Didn't seem to get very far
As far as the TL 99 to 00 comparison, you can look right here. Compare the 6th gen 5AT to the 6th gen 4AT. SteVTEC did a thread showing the differences, including the 6MT.
