Made a few runs at the track tonight

Nothing special. Just a few passes (well 12) at the track tonight. Setup for tonight was:

Kosei 17s, 235-40 T1-Ss at 32psi all around
Full interior, empty trunk
1/4 tank
Cobra 13" brakes (about 8lbs heavier per side than stock brakes).
New Summit Racing RPM switch set at 5400rpm for MEVI

Here are my runs in order from best to worst. All runs were hot lapped except my best run which had about 1 hour cooldown between it and the previous run. I made 4 passes in about 15 minutes right when I got there then let it cool for an hour and made 8 passes in the last 30 mins or so.

2.347

97.41 <---first run of the day

A couple things to note. All the runs that I trapped lower than 98mph were made in my first set of 4 runs when it was hotter out, except for the two where I was messing with my RPM switch.

Track weather was 73* F and 29.91 in/Hg and rising when I got home at 10:15 so probably about 80* when I got there and a little lower pressure. Humidity is currently 76%.

For comparison:

LS1 6spd stock trapping at 99-100mph, wtf
99 GT 5 spd stock trapping at 96-97mph
99ish Roush stage 2 stock trapping 95-96mph (side pipes hurting him)
SVT Contour trapping at 86mph basic mods
Grand Prix GTX trapping at 88-89mph, not sure if stock or not (hopefully it was)
C5 Vette trapping at 190ish (well a C5 body anyways)

As usual great runs. Neal if my memory is correct I think you are in the Chicago area. I have relocated from GA, where is the track located.

Thanks

Nice!

Your times are as consistent as Dave B's!

Do some bracket racing and scare everybody with like a 14.2 dial-in. What? That thing runs 14.2?? Prize money can be used for more mods.

Gotta love the consistency of the VQ

Good runs Neal. It's nice to see how our cars compare when you're running with the factory hood, radial tires, and a non-stripped interior. It looks like the 5400rpm switchover worked out best for your car.

Neal, I just bought the Summit RPM switch to replace my Harlan but I haven't put it in yet. Is it more consistance and foolproof than the Harlan?

It is perfectly consistent and foolproof so far. Hasn't wigged out on me once. It cannot be run off the coil however, you HAVE to run it off the tach signal, either at the TAM screw or the tach input wire in pin 5 of the ECU. I'm running it off pin 5 of the ECU. Setting it is super easy, just set the little DIP switches to your desired setting. There are 2 sets of switches, one for the "thousands place" to set 2000, 3000, 4000, etc RPM and one for the "hundreds place" to set 200, 400, 600, etc. It goes ever 200 RPM which sucks but isn't really a big deal. I was using 5300 with my Harlan. The DIP switches on the Summit switch are TINY, smaller even than the harlan, and I can't switch them without an implement, the edge of a flat blade screw driver, a pen, etc.

The other weird thing is the settings. our .org member guestNX was the one who told me about the Summit switch and he said Summit told him it's set up for 8 Cylinder operation. My calculations show it's set up for 4 cyl operation but that's neither here nor there. What matters is that you can't actually set it to the desired RPM on our cars. On my car it seems to be 1/3 of the RPM off. I've currently got it set at 3400rpm and it opens at ~5400. guestNX's setting is different though, his seems to be off by exactly half if I recall correctly. Weird. Anyhow I suggest getting one it works great aside from the wierdness of setting it.

I swore I read that the second bank of dips were to set 100 increments unless I read the instructions wrong.

Unless you got a different switch than I did they are 200rpm incremends. There are only 5 of them, 0, 200, 400, 600, 800.

He was doing shakedown passes actually, shutting off at like 1000 feet. He was running low 7s on those passes. It was sick. Eclipsed only by the Top Fuel dragster I once saw at a Test n' Tune (got that on video, ran 5.41 at like 256 having let off and got back on it partway thru the run because he was getting fishy.)
