I have a problem with my cars exhaust shaking real bad when you get on it. My friends were behind me and said you can see the whole muffler when I floor it, not just the tip. They said the tip goes down approximately 2 inches. Any Ideas? I think its hang ers, but is there anything I can look for under the car. I also have a problem with revving the car about 3,000 rpm in neutral and a very bad grinding rattling noise coming from the exhaust when letting off the gas. I think it has something to do with my budget y pipe, and I remember reading about problems like mine, but cant seem to find them. Please give me some help.

Thank you,
-Nick

It might be because the budget Y has a defective flex section or the flex section is too small to absorb the vibrations. Just for kicks, check that all the pipe hangers are in place. Make sure none of them fell off the hanger.

Are you sure it could be a defective flex, because I just got the pipe about a month or two ago, and I heard they had fixed the flex problem.

Just giving you my thoughts. If you are sure the flex is fine then I would make sure all the pipe hangers are in tact. Make sure none of them fell off or worse broke. If they are fine, check the bolts on all the flanges for the Cat and Bpipe. If that is all fine, then last and only thing that it could be would be the motor mounts.

It cant be motor mounts because my engine was open while revving and I didnt hear anything but my intake. It sounds like the car is rattling from the middle of the car, like by the cat.

Do you mean you had the hood open and you really didnt see the engine moving at all but still heard alot of rattling?

If so, get someone under the car while you rev it and pinpoint where it is coming from if all the pipe hangers and bolts are intact so you can see if it is the Ypipe flex section or the boltup was done at a **** angle and causing the pipe to be closer to the body.

I mean that I had the hood open and revved the engine with the throttle cable and heard no rattle, just the intake. I then revved to 4k rpm in side the car and let of and heard the rattle towards the middle of the car.

I had a problem like this last summer. I didn't have any mods at the time but the rattle turned out to be coming from a small metal piece in front of the flex section. Anytime I would go over a bump it would rattle. I just took it off when I found out that's what was rattling. Maybe this is similar to your problem?

hmm. It was a year ago so it's hard to remember. I don't think it was any bigger than........a credit card. I think it was a hangar. Sorry I can't be more help. I'll look for it tomorrow. I think it's somewhere in the garage. Are you going to either of the meets in August Nick?
I have a link to one of the meet threads in my sig. There's also one in Oconomowoc. If you haven't solved your problem by then, I could bring the piece along and show you what it looks like.

Hey Nick did you try to DL the MIRC program? You could get some fast answers through there. Might want to consider downloading that. I'm in there just about every night. The Maxima.org channel can be quite helpful.
