Was the Maxima your 1st Choice?

Just want to know how everyone ended up with a Maxima.

The Maxima was basically our 3rd choice. The Audi A4 1.8T was really on my mind and the car was so nice for the price! Problem was that it was so small! So that car was deleted from our list. Then the Camry LE V6 or the SE V6. The salesguy tried ripping us off and I got into an arguement with him so there goes that car. We had already test drove the Maxima a few weeks back and we went to a closer dealer. It had HIDs and 255 hp and a bunch of a goodies.

We were sold.

That's how we ended up with a Maxima.

How about you guys?

It was my 2nd choice.....was really looking for a Volvo S70 T5 5-speed (either red w/ the tan leather, or black w/ whatever leather, spoiler, fogs, etc.), but couldn't find one in the budget. Looked at the max but didn't see one under budget so i started looking at the contour svt. i found a max that fit the budget (and pops said the svt was too small), and we've been together for 2 years.

As a typical teenager, my first choices were Trans Am, Z28, Mustang GT, and RSX-S...but my parents wanted me to get a reliable, practical Japanese car...so I ended getting a Maxima.

My first choice was a 350Z, so I preordered one. Then I decided to be more practical, which I kinda regret. But hey I still ended up with a great car.

Well, my 3rd gen was a hand-me-down, but yea, a 97+ would have been my very first choice

My firstest, first choice was a 6-speed type II legend coupe. And I actually found a 93 here with 92k on it, about a month before I got the max. But the dealership was horrible with me, and it had probs they weren't willing to fix/knock off for price. I had it for a weekend though, and tested the sprinting speed once...man, that thing could fly!

First choice otherwise was a 95-96 prelude si 5-spd. Didn't find any with low enough miles.

Couldn't pass the max up. It had 83k, higher than I wanted, and I paid a bit too much, but pretty rare to find an all-options 5-speed SE here.

It's not so much a numbers list as a pool of cars, and the maxima won.

Volvo s60 - the options screwed me... either 250hp manual w/ FWD or 200hp and AWD. I wanted 250 hp but didn't like the $38k pricetag on the T5.

BMW 3-series - it's too small, and again comparing it to a max you get more stuff and a bigger car in a max, sooo

2k2 6-speed Maxima with everything but nav - for $15k less than the bmw, $14k less than the volvo, way more stuff than either at that price.

Next car... that'll be a fun one. Volvo S60R, but that's a few years away on the budget timeline.

For the 03 Max it was the only choice, for the 350Z it was th eonly choice as well. We knew what we wanted as we have a long history with z's and Maxima's.

I got hooked on nissan with my sentra. The car was very strong and i just loved it. This was a 87 sentra 4cyl. I bought my 90 maxima se in 97 from a dealer for $4800, it was a 5spd. The transmission blew out 2 times. I still felt love for the maxima but this time around i bought an auto. Sometimes i regret it when im reading stories about the 5spd but realisticly im glad i bought auto, it suits the car better IMO.

The Acura TL was my first choice, drove it, hated it. My brother said to try out the new Maximas (back in Jan. 2000) so I drove one and fell in love with it. Been a Maxima lover ever since.

Thanks Bro

The ONLY choice!

I had a Saturn ( POS, all i could afford) for 3 years, sold it, and had no ride for a year while trying to pay off some bills. Got a promotion at work, was tired of not being able to drive to my destinations, wanted something "prestigious" and reliable, went to the dealer on April 30, 1999, just before the 5th Gens came out. Saw what I wanted, no test drive, cut a decent deal ($24k), and took my baby home!

One regret: shoulda got a , but I'm still

First choice - Ford Escape (new production at the time)

Second Choice - Automatic Maxima ONLY w/rims clears and a system(ended up converting it to 5spd, getting rid of the system, and going all out on it performance and cosmetic wise, thanks to the org of course)

Later on - '96-98 Z28 6spd, '94-98 Mustang GT 5spd, '94-98 Mustang Cobra 5spd.

Ended up keeping the Maxima and boosting it. I love raw V8 power and exhaust note, but one thing the Maxima OWNS those muscle cars in is room and build quality. My '95 Max SE's interior is much more solid and refined then the other interiors. You seem to appriciate the build quality of the Maxima much more when you sit in much sh!ttier interiors with plastics galore.

Wow, im surprized theres some volvo fans out here . . . my first choice was a 1997ish Volvo 850R/T5-R , I could not find one with low miles, so I ended up looking at the Audi A4 1.8T/2.8 (AWD), they seem to have lots of expensive problems, so I looked at the 4th gen Maxima SE, I always liked the way they looked, but when I drove one, it was so smooth and solid, I was happy and got it.

I always wanted a 97-99 Maxima SE. Finally got my 98 in 99. It was the only black SE I could find in my area.

my first choice was a Grand Cherokee Limited, like a 96, those years but i couldnt find one that sounded right and people educated me on the problems american cars have so i received a high recommendation from a friend to get a maxima, his favorite car. Too bad he could never afford one, or atleast the ones he liked (4th gen). I stole his dream twice and i'm happy with it. Had the chance to get something different second time around, but all i know is maxima and with money i had, it was only car i knew i would be happy with for the price.

My next car will be a BMW 5 series, or M series

It was the Maxima or an GSX.

The Mitsubishi dealer was being an A$$ so I ended up with the more reliable car for cheaper. I don't think the DSM would be holding up as well after 6 years...

my auntie gave sold the maxima to my mom before i got my license. my mom was gonna let me drive the family van, but after i knew about the org i begin to add little mods here and there and gradually took over. it wasn't till last couple months we actually sit down and talk about the ownership of the max.

so it was kinda my first choice. currently i pay monthly payment + insurance + maintance + mod on MY maxima. all the $$ i made in 1 year @ starbux was completely devoted to my baby

Here was my shopping list, 1 week before I bought my Max.

1. Slightly used Audi S4 ( too small and expansive to insure)
2. Maxima 6spd
3. Acura TL-S (Heard too many tranny problems)
4. Used M3 ( Cost an Arm and a Leg to insure, and maintence)

The Max is what I really wanted, but the insurance was gonna/still does break bank.
I wanted a ****ing GSX, cuz theyre decently fast and insurance doesnt kick me in the ***.
But mom had the Max, bought a BMW528i one day, showed up and gave me the Max keys. I was like w00t!!!
So yeah, the Max was my first choice =/

i wanted a passat so i went through everything but signing the paperwork. cancelled because events came in such a way that i would only keep the car for one year. pretty useless to get hit by the devaluation so that fell out.

then there was the 2000 WJ (grand cher) as my dad has one and i love it but watching him become a resident of the local gas station put me off big time..

then i saw a max in a lot and looked at it for the first time with any attention... i was hooked. and that's about it.

I tend to plan things out, so I decided that I wanted a 1995 Maxima in early 97. They had depreciation problems way back then, and I found a high mileage 1995 for only $14995, over 60k in 1 1/2 years. I nixed that since the best they could do was extend the powertrain warranty. Then in 1998 the prices came crashing down, 6500+ off list so I bought. In retrospect, I was penny-wise and pound foolish. At the same time, a cousin bought an M3 and another an A4 2.8 Quattro--let's be honest, in 1998 I really didn't have the coyne for a German car and I wasn't a homeowner back then either.

There simply is NO valid comparison between 325, A4, and Maxima. The German cars are superior period. They are not in the same class either for size, the only reason I think anybody looks at both is because they think if they stretch their budget maybe they can step up to an Audi or BMW. Most Maxima owners will not be used to the cost of maintaining a German vehicle either. But if you have the budget, my .02 says the German will provide more driving satisfaction at a slightly higher ongoing cost. Keep the car more than 5 years, and you do have $$$$ (you're not stretching your budget) and the German cars are a no-brainer.

I really likes the reviews of the VW 1.8. Needed a practical type car, so was looking for a Jetta wagon with MT. Dealer didn't have one. I thought the Passat was too big/heavy for the 1.8. They had a 2K2 Altima 5 speed with all options, which I kinda liked, but they wouldn't deal on it.

Went to a different dealer and saw a 2K2 6 speed Max. Fell in love and the final price was less than the Alti!! (not as many options, but I didn't mind)

a MAX was my first and only choice. took me 4 weeks of searchin and then i finally found it. 2001 Anniversary Edition. white w/ black perferated leather interior (perfect condition and very rare), bose system, 17' titanium rims, stock body kit, and many many many other nice little details. even my key is sik! so i took the 180 mile drive down to CT and a week later it was mine. lol. well worth the drive.

Friend had a pearl 3rd gen handed down to him when he turned 16 (back in the day). I fell in love with the moonroof, leather, BOSE, v6, power seats, and the fact it could do 120mph+ with 4 people in it (yea, yea stupid, but we were young). The next year my dad leased a 96GXE. I didn't have any goodies, but the VQ was enough to make up for it. Soon after I got a '91 GXE. From age of 16 I was diehard about Maximas.
Recently, however, I've been considering other cars: Acura RSX-S, Audi 1.8T, Honda Prelude, IS300, but everytime I sit in a Maxima (except for the '04!) it feels like home.
Seems like people here are looking at VWs before they get into a Max..I may have to consider them...I don't need the room.

I was only considering 4-door cars under $25000 at the time...the Maxima was my #1 choice, followed by the VW Jetta GLX and Honda Accord V6. In retrospect, I should have went with the Jetta. Though is has a horsepower disadvantage, it'll run circles around a Maxima on curvy roads.
