Matthel's chop shop #3

sup everyone...

got another story for ya..

so today Nismo and i are workin on his Max on the driveway doing a 5speed conversion and 2 SSF PD officers in 2 cruisers roll up. they approach us and ask us what we were doing, we told them we were fixing his car. Then the officers runs the plate of the 3rd gen project and Nismo's 4th gen. They ask for our ID and registration. Then they ask us what we were doing before the officers came. Officer #1 starts smoking a cigarette and said "we heard you were sawing these cars"
Nismo and i were like WTF?? we explained what we were doing and i explained to them i dont run a business here i juss help out my friends and stuff. they ask about my Max and my roomate's and I's bike. after some more questions and explainations they decide to leave...

For some reason this experince was kinda funny.

If I were you...

I wouldnt say a word to any more officers that come by. I certainly wouldnt let them into my house. That crap is getting out of hand.

I think you should hit them in the teeth by saying something like "Once you guys finally realize you're wasting your time and mine I want an apology".

sounds like you need a car with some straight pipes on it. The experience just isnt complete with out them. (that is, if a neighbor is calling, which it sounds like the case is)

Seems like...

You have a very mis-informed neighbor. That could be the only reason why the police "show" up while you are working on the car. Because I am guessing you work on a variety of differnt cars and they are "torn down" makes them assume you are chopping them. OR, they are just ticked off at the car work being done in the neighborhood and are calling on you to "hack YOU off".

Regardless, you would think that the police would figure this out after the third trip and you check out clean for the third time...sheesh.

Keep detailed written record of these events, you may need it. Or keep a small casset recorder in the garage, and tape all future conversations. They are harrasing you.

And my lady(from the Bay area) says that the cops don't really harrass people out there like they do here in MA or in NYC...............

You should start taping the conversations soon as they pull up. Get yourself a tape recorder.

You need to ask those idiots who is calling the police on you. Geez, how many times do you need to prove yourself?! I would say, "I just went down to the station to clear myself. This is getting out of hand." If those guys can't name who the accuser is, then tell them to leave you alone.

Get a CAMCORDER!!!!

They HATE that sheit being stuffed in their face ESPECIALLY when you call them on their BS stories about why they are harassing you and running the same plate 3-times. Then after you get a couple tapes, see a lawyer.

You CLEARLY have a neighbor who is pi$$ed off about you always working on cars at your house, so they call the police and report you HOPING you'll get sick of it and move. The police need to wise up and stop wasting TAX DOLLARS on BS complaints.

If it were me, I would be polite, courteous and friendly whenever the police showed up. Eventually they will be on your side and get pi$$ed off at the neighbor calling in the false information.

BTW...my bet is it's some OLD person or someone who sleeps during the day.

They can't stand loud banging/sawing/cussing and will ALWAYS call the cops vs. confronting you.

I agree. Your legit, you have nothing to hide and you know it. Maybe ask the cops for some help, or next time ask if the cops wouldnt mind playing peer mediator and confront the person whos complaining with the cops there. Having the cops there will add some seriousness to your side of the issue, and will probably discourage them from making another phone call. if you need to argue, the tax dollars and cops time arguement will shut them up quickly, and maybe even ask why they didnt have the ***** to confront you before hand.

All providing the cops release the info of the person filing the complaints.

The cahnces of that are slim to none.

I would just stop talking to the cops at all until they tell you what's going on.

The only drag with this idea is that he may not have the same cops coming to his place everytime. If you do, this may well work. I wouldn't be surprised if you started getting visits for excessive-noise complaints since the chop-shop idea isn't working out. Other than that, I just echo the ideas of video/audio recordings, getting badge numbers and otherwise documenting the events.

- Don't audio record the police wihtout their knowledge (and therefore implied consent if they don't ask you to shut it off) IN some states that is illegal. Check your local laws. I'll try to find the cite of the case where a lawyer secretly taped a traffic stop and entered the tape into envidence when he fought the ticket. He was prosecuted for the recording.

- Be very nice to the cops who come around. They are sent there by neighbors and they MUST by law check you out. When they see you are not doing anything illegal they leave. You woudl get the saem thing if you got locked out and broke into your own house and a neighbor saw. Don't blame the cop just for being there unless he is a **** after he arrives.

- If you are really friendly with the cops then they will eventually side with you if they get called enough and you are not breaking the law. Also, the neighbor who called them is prolly watching from his window, and how do you think he'll react to seeing you being all pally-pally with the cops like they're you're best buds? He'll realise the cops are on your side and it's not worth him calling!

If you're gonna videotape anything, then videotape your car outside your house when it's unattended in case the neighbor takes the law into his own hands.

I suggest getting a peice of 8' X 4' plywood and paint it with the words,

"I'm not running a chop-shop, so don't ask"
