i just sound deadened my car last weekend and put in my stereo...those two things added about 300 pounds to my car..i was driving it around with no interior and my max was soooo fast i couldn't beleive it..now everything is back in and it feels slower than my mom's altima. does anyone know how much hp do i lose from additional weight in my car..why in the hell is it so slow...will adding intake/y-pipe combo regain power back to where it was stock, or will it even make my car faster than stock albeight the extra weight? please i need expert opinions...

Yes weight dose affect your car's quickness. Thats why all the prostock cars are striped to metal. SCC did a story on a 99 si, where they striped it off the seats ,sound proofing, ac, radio, carpet, cc,ect and if memory serves corectly the car had something like .3 sec faster There is a calculation that you can do for you car that every number of pounds you take of the car the amount to hp sec you can take of. Cant find it tough. BUt yes the intake and what not should balance it out. But think of what you could have if you didnt have that box in there and what not.???

If it is really 300 pounds,

it does have a significant and noticeable effect on the performance. 300 pounds is equal to carrying 6 50lb rice bags. I've carried 4 bags and it does hinder the performance a lot. I was riding on 15" GXE hubcap wheels for a week and the car was slightly peppier with that set up. I have 16" now and I can feel the performance degradation, although it's worth it since I love how the new 16" wheels look.

you don't lose any hp, you just have a worse hp/weight ratio.
if you really want to understand it your way, i guess you can say you lost roghly 10% of your hp, sine 300lbs is roughly 10% more than your stock weight.

ok..so sincei added 10% more weight i need to add 10% more hp to make it fast again correct? so adding a intake/y-pipe combo, which has been known to add in the neightborhood of 20hp together should make it about as fast as stock right? or am i wrong

yes as long as you remain the same hp/weight ration, your car *should* feel the same fast to you.

time calculator

nismo.org has a 1/4 time calculator where you put in your weight and horsepower and it projects you a time, the weight makes a big difference.

regardless of what you do your car is going to have to work harder to keep up with the added weight, adding mods will help but it will take alot.im assuming adding 300 lbs also effected ur suspension too? just my 2 cents

from what i been told

i dont know if it true or not but i have asked this a couple of times at the track and most people told me that for every 10 lbs you lose you gain/release 1 hp so if you add 10 lbs then you lose 1 hp...you can do the math

I know that for every 100lbs you take off, you are a tenth fster ih the q-mile. Same goes for adding weight. Sound deadening is what's normally first removed from the interior. I used 47^2ft of Dynamat in my max. That is probably why the rear sags so much.

Adding/removing 100lbs does not increase/decrease .1 of a second from your 1/4 mile in a Maxima. This is a myth and only really applies to cars pushing big torque and big hp like a healthy 350 V8. It is all relative to the power output (hp/tq), useable powerbands, overall size of the motor, and weight of the car. SCC did a great test highlighting the outcomes on 2 distinctly different types of power producing cars. The cars were a 14-second Focus (stripped) and a stock Eclipse GT. The test was to add to 50lbs in increments and gauge the cars performance. From what I remember, the Focus gained nearly .4 with an extra 150lbs of weight. Even with 50lbs of weight, the Focus was .2 slower. The GT was over .3 slower with 200lbs. So if a Maxima gains 300lbs in weight, it will be .5-.7 slower depending on tranny. Not .3 slower like many are saying.
