raced new lex
I raced one of those new Is 300 last night. He got the better start(his friend started us off) i was even with him by second gear. We stayed dead even until 50 mph and then we had to stop because it was on a side street. If it was at a light I bet i would have had him.
thats nice...
well, I had a big nasty black truck (new chevy something) eat me up on a merge ramp. He came around me (in traffic, so he wasnt going anywhere fast) to pass on a road that was merging a few hundred yards. I floored it because I didnt want him throwing up an asteroid belt on my car. He had alitte jump on me and there was just no holding him off, he started creeping up on my rear quarter and wasnt letting off. I ended up having to hammer the brakes and let the freak go. I was kinda disappointed.
IS 300 Owners have a lot of pride. Lexus did a good job getting their hopes up and letting them think their car is unbeatble. I have yet to run into a IS. when I do I'm sure to give that guy a run for his money.

i think is300 is not as fast as a 5spd maxima...
test drove one; it was fast, but i could feel that it wasn't not as fast as my car. it'll be another story as soon as the manual comes out though.
love its styling, and the big rim, too. but somehow don't agreen with the instrument design and the shift ****...

people who buys I300 or a BMW328 or Audi 2.8 oe E320 and hoping to beat most of V6 sedans on the roads are idiots, those cars are far far away from the best bang for the buck when it comes to speed.
it's anout travel in style you know

See that IS commercial with rally racing? They show the BMW driving sloppily after the IS. Those IS commercials are nice...but not very realisitic...handles better in rally racing...oh damn, doesn't affect me.

My favorite commercial is the one for the BMW 3-coupe...show a silver coupe flying through a dark background, with the sound of the lovely engine dominating
actually in most of their commercials when they push their performance image, they concentrating on the handling part over the accelaration part.
that being said, they still have ok performance for what it is. auto to auto, stick to stick, 328, A4 2.8, Is300, E320 are just as fast if not faster than the normal V6 sedan crowd. so nothing to be ashamed there.
if you really want more, shell more dough you can go M3, S4, AMG also.

my experience racing an is300
My best friend bought his IS at the same time I bought my 97 SE 5sp (actually he got his a week before my max). I've raced against him a few times. Both of our cars are bone stock by the way. From my experience, the IS is just as fast as my car. However, I seriously think I can beat him, but not by much. I'm still not used to getting a good launch on the car, considering I'm still a novice when it comes to driving it hard. I always drive smoothly, so I'm not used to shifting fast and hard. But once I get used to it, I want another shot at him.
PS Any one have any driving tips for me, what I may be doing wrong? Thanks, I appreciate any your responses.
