another successful clutch install

Well thanks to Brian ( briguymax ) and greg ( dustyroads ) again for helping me install my clutch. They helped me install a stock clutch on my last maxima, and now yesterday installed an ACT in my 99 SE. Install went pretty smooth, ran into problems with the bolts on the cat conv but other then that nothing. I was able to drop the trans by myself with no problems, and reinstalling it took no time at all.

This time we did not remove the right cv axle, and it did not cause a problem at all, saved alot of time. Also this time having air tools helped

Thanks again guys, and yes I know I owe both of you again

Good to hear Josh. Give me your opinion of the clutch once you break it in. Any word on what day for the track?

Yeah I have heard the good and the bad, as long as you dont beat on it all the time with the act it should be fine.

I will let you know how it is once its broken in

It's not the clutches they break, it's clutches that break the tranny gears. The ACT grabs too hard and tranmitts a lot of toruqe to gears that aren't designed to the shock load. As long as he doesn't shift hard he'll be fine. Otherwise, he's walking on egg shells.

I have never understood why have a performance clutch if you have to granny shift it? Why not just use a stock clutch and shift how you want?

(Besides running a lot of HP and TQ the stock clutch can't hold)

That's my reason. I never even shifted my car hard when I had the stock clutch and NA.

Once I installed the SC (with the stock pully) the clutch would slip AFTER it was already fully engaged. Just couldn't hold the extra power.

Perfectly understandable if your running boost or a large nitrous shot. But there is no NA car on this board over 200fwhp, and no need for a clutch that clamps %36 harder. It seems people just like to say "I have an ACT".

Oh, this is not directed at you Josh, we talked and I know why you installe the clutch.

I know Mike

I shift weak anyways so I should be fine, plus maybe someday I will actually have some mods that would need a clutch like this ;-)

I don't think I've seen any dynos of a 4th gen with only intake and exhaust making more than upper 190's.

Nevertheless, the feel of the ACT is so much better than stock (if you don't mind an increased propensity for chatter), regardless of how much power you have. And let me repeat what ejj said, clutches don't damage transmissions, people do. (Reminds me of the old saying, guns don't kill people, bullets do - yuk yuk yuk.) If you treat your drivetrain with respect, there's no reason it won't hold up.
