I was reading the new Road & Track and they stated that only 3% of Maximas have a manual transmission. Weird, I would have thought it would be more. Especially since 3 series BMW is 40%

Nope-very few manual trannys for Maxs Very hard to find and sometimes difficult to sell b/c nobody wants them. US as a country is fairly lazy and thinks its bothersome to have to shift a car. We have the highest percentage of auto trannys in the world

When I was car shopping last summer, I discovered there was not one new Maxima in Memphis with a 5-spd manual tranny! I couldn't believe that *none* of the 3 local Nissan dealers had one. I prefer a 5-spd to an automatic and a Tiptronic. I was looking at the new Maximas the other day, and only one of them on the lot had a 5-spd tranny. And it was one of those AE models, too... $30K.

When I bought my 98, the dealer told me that Nissan makes 5% manual transmissions. I got lucky with my color and interior. It had just come off the delivery truck and I was the first (and only) one to drive it. The only other manuals in town were black or had a gray interior.

I'm fortunate I found my car then

I was going to get a netune blue SE 5-speed, but the white one I bought had a lot of options in it. I think manuals are more common in California. Everyone new and old Volkswagon I see is a manual.
