Reverse + TQ = working tranny :)

Well after some research and some thought and LOTS of frustration... I put the car in "R" and bumped the throttle until about 3400 RPM and then a thump she was rolling backwards. So I try 1st.. works as advertised.

Slow easy test drive, every gear WORKS. Med. test drive, works!

Hard test drive WORKS

SO my tranny is back to 100%.. thank goodnes.. but I can't beat on it like I have been unless I turn the boost down.

So the planning starts today.

Thanks for all the help

Auto Transmission = Soft Vagina

5spd Transmission = Bulky Junk

Which do you have? Even beefed up auto trannies are owned by the solidity of a 5spd tranny.

well at least you have a heads up to start gathering your parts or try to get a hold of an auto tranny to rip apart and build up.

Reverse doesn't count.

Neither does park or neutral incase you're.

Hmm.. how many 5spd members have blown gears on 5spds?

Not saying anything other than if you look closely, it is hit or miss.. my situation was a miss.. but it speaks volumes that I was able to get the tranny back in working order... knocks on wood

and on which one is faster I am several other members have proven auto's are able to hang with 5spds.

deezo- beefier. yes. now, unknown.. trying to spend the money once if possible.. I am calming down... go WOT until the dhift then let off and then after the shift WOT

I wish we had the setup the supra auto's have .. the throttle plate closes during the shift no matter what postion the pedal is in

jason- I said it before and I'll say it again.. it takes time and $$ for a proper 5spd. I am aiming for 400 WHP so I am planning on that.. I do not want to blow the gears or clutch in my new 5spd doing the same thing

carl- you'll know more before most

luke-

looks like no more beating up on those EVO's huh?

with all that power I'd probably go ahead and just get a used VLSD 5-speed and rebuild. do whatever to make it stronger and more durable. depends on what you're going for though.

The Nissan VLSD is pretty weak as far as diffs go. A better solution would be installing a Quaife ATB diff in a normal tranny.

True, I have taken heed to Jeff92SE's advice to avoid being another victim of a 3rd gear blowout. I used to frequently downshift into a lower gear and pop the clutch (no revv matching) this would give the sensation of a rocket like take off and would chirp the tires, but put an extreme amount of stress on my transmission/axles. I havent done it for months now. Now I usually just get into the gear and floor it while in gear, or revv match on a downshift. If I really want that "pushed in seat" feeling, I'll get off the gas and jab it again quickly to get that chirp on take off.
