BIG DISCOVERY! "BUDGET" y-pipe busted flex section!

i know many of us are running budget y-pipes on the org. because it's cheap and it has been dynoed and proven its gain just as other expensive y-pipes such as stillen and cattman.

i was bored and surfed thru warpspeed's side. of course they advertised how great their y-pipe and specially attack budget's by showing the following picture:

they call it the "cheap canadian knock-offs."

i know ohsonmaxima is selling his 2 years old budget y-pipe over here >. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=246786 for $100 due to leaky flex section. personally i have a small crack at my budget flex section as well, but it was due to the car accident.

i have been thinking replacing my y-pipe a lot later, but warpspeed has caught my attention. now let the flames on.

I would buy another budget y-pipe....

But they don't make a y-pipe for my application..

so if I were you, i'd buy another budget y-pipe

and FWIW..

I had a budget y-pipe on there for almost 2 years 0 problems

i got one.. havent installed it yet but it seems to be of good quality.

if i get 2 years out of the pipe.. i'll be happy..

what does a replacement flex section cost anyways? 30-60$? the pipe is quite cheap..

I recently heard of using header wrap on ur y to quiet it down, do yo uthink i could wrap the flex section with this, just as a pre-caution?

i guess this all goes back to personal opinion. i'm just tryin to provide more information that's all. IMO, my 2nd y-pipe would most likely be warpspeed. (after i get my AGX of course)

My flex section gave way on my stock y-pipe. I guess Nissans quality sucks too.

Anything and everything is prone to have a failure now and then, it's perfectly normal. Just as we see failures with our VQ engines, you'll see failures with aftermarket parts. Struts/shocks, Exhaust, Stereo equipment, Brakes ect... For the price you pay for a Budget Y pipe and their very low failure rate, you'd be foolish to by a pipe anywhere else.

What average prices are you all paying for Budget versus Warpspeed y-pipes? I'm looking to get one for Christmas and those are the 2 I'm considering for my 2k1. Thanks in advance!

I use to have a Stillen Y-pipe and it busted it's flex so I got a WSP non-mandrel y-pipe which was a mere $195. Not only did the WSP make more power on the dyno, it comes with a LINED flex section which quiets the exhaust down and removes nearly all the hiss. I had a chance to install a Budget y-pipe last weekend and it looked to be pretty good and fit like a glove. The only thing I didn't like was that it did not have a lined flex section. IMO, the lined flex means everything and spending an extra $20-30 is worth it for the quieter exhaust.

yea but your WSP is 20-30 more but its not Mandrel bent ??

id rather get the mandrel bent and just wait till i have to replace the flex and then get a lined one ... i dunno

Mandrel is worthless, IMO and even WSP admits it. They make mandrel bent pipes simply because the Maxima public demands it. The non-mandrel WSP y-pipe IS NOT crush bent. It's a smooth bend and looks nearly mandrel. One of WSP's y-pipe test cars resides in Kansas City (GuidoSST). His bonestock 95 GLE with just mandrel bent WSP y-pipe made a whopping 1hp more than their non-mandrel bent y-pipe. Same car, same dyno machine, same correction factors, no other changes.

I think that it is kinda lame that Warpspeed has to knock budget's pipe to make theirs look better and try to increase sales.

Like I said just buy a new FLEX section, you don't need a new pipe...

to get better business, they should redesign their website to make it less confusing

according to them... budget uses
CHEAP CHINESE IMPORTED STEEL MEANS SHORT LIFESPAN.
they used to say budget painted thier pipes becuase its not SS

now they're saying the steel came from some cheap chinese place

whats next? are they going to say the flex section came from South Africa

I have a budget y-pipe, my friend has an early (2+ yrs old)budget y-pipe that had bees in the can noise, he put warpspeed flex on it and our ypipe sounds indentical

edit: one thing I noticed is my budget y-pipe hangs looow, it drag my cat & bpipe resonator down and I always scrape it, I don't know if you guys have that problem with other y-pipes

Main reason I didn't spend money with them.

On the flex section failures, I believe if you don't secure your exhaust with stiff hangers, it will cause the exhaust to move in a angle the flex section is not made to handle. This is why my flex section separated from the front side of my stock y-pipe. I'll try to have it repaired but for now I'll get my Budjet y on before anything else gives way.

can anyone confirm this?

My pipe has a dent in it from the previous owner to bottomed out real hard.. do all aftermarket pipes hang lower than factory?

I bottomed out 3 times in the last few days and my body kit is not even on yet. All I have is H&R springs lol.

You're bottoming out on the front or the back?

My WSP y-pipe sits as high as the engine crossmember. I've never had a problem bottoming out. That doesn't sound good.
