who never street races
hi- I hear all you guys talking about how much you race and I never race on the street ( or any where). Not trying to put any one down but I think racing is kinda lame to do on the streets. Do you guys fantasize that you are a race car driver when you go flying down the street racing some one. I just like to have a cool looking car thats decently fast and I dont care about how slow/fast any one elese car is. It doesnt make me feel manly to race some faceless kid in another car. Im sure you all are excelent race car drivers and would never cause an accident due to your inabilities to skillfully pilot your max at high speeds. Dont say "I never race unless there is no one on the road" thats just b/s. What are you going to do when some ones grandma cant tell your going down the road at 70 in a 35 and pulls out and you kill her ? Just something to think about next time you see that slimshady looking kid in the civic wanting to race.

Why do you want a decently fast car if you dont street race? I mean you can drive fast without racing anyone, but driving fast can be juss as dangerous as Street racing. But isnt street racing 2 people driving fast together? No when people go crazy and weave in and out its not street racing its reckless driving. Not to justify street racing but grandmas dont pull out of no where on a dead 4 lane freeway at 1am. Even tho the majority of people that street race are kids, not ONLY kids street race. I myself street race sometimes and im sure 95% of car enthusists have sometime or another.

I want a fast car for merging on the highway, pulling out in traffic, so its easy to get up hills, and such. Briskly accelerating till the posted speed is safe. Im not saying we should drive like my mom does in her camry, the good old 0-60 in about an hour. I should have clarified "fast" sorry about that bro. I was only using the grandma thing as a rough example didnt mean you to take it literaly. I was just trying to make the point that you could hurt some one when you are gooffing off. If you are physic and can for see the future and know that no one will be pulling on to the road where your racing please disregard this post.

Street Racing
Not the best of ideas. I'm not questioning anyone's driving ability but racing is why they make tracks. If you're street racing and your opponent makes a mistake and kills someone, including him/herself, guess who's also responsible. Guess who also gets charged. Guess who gets charged with even more if you leave.
You don't know how good your opponent is. A LOT of people can't handle their car's full power. They THINK they can but if they're not trained and their car isn't properly equipped, they're an accident waiting to happen. In addition, the roads aren't designed for really high speeds, tracks are.

That's some funny sh*t . I just came from lunch and raced the same car.. Pretty good run I should add
Aren't you Mr "No Y pipe"?
Aren't you the guy who started a long thread about the environmental effetcs fo a Y pipe? But to stay on your thread topic for a second...there are many roads throughout this great nation that lend themselves to street racing w/o putting anyone in danger except the participants (A flat farm road with 5 mile view and no intersecting road/driveways-just cows staring at you from 5 acres deep). These are the roads where I choose to "play". PLus the speed limits here are 75 so going 15-20 over is pretty fast already.
And if you are My Y pipe...I am having my Cat removed to run straight pipes back from my Y pipe.... (Shhhhh don't tell anyone!) :-)

A deep seated aversion to boredom
Raced a Mustang LX last night. He asked for it, he got it. Started at highway speeds, Ended at the interchange. Both of us had fun. I've been doing this since I was a teenager and have taken driving courses to improve my skills. There has just never been a time in my life when the slightest smell of competition hasn't gotten my blood boiling. Do I play it stupid, No. Do I race any other "slimshady" that comes along, NO. Is the Maxima a good car for having some fun in, Absolutely. I've taken the Maxima to a track, and it was fun but not spontaneous. Hopefully when you find out that everyone in the world isn't irresponsible you'll see we all have our ways of enjoying life. By the way, I reached the interchange first, WooHoo.

Re: Aren't you Mr
I want one of those "detours" for my cat. Are you having it fabricated at a muffler shop? Lemme know. Oh yeah, my favorite place to race is through school zones at about 2:30 in the afternoon, ya know alot of obstacles to weave in and out of.-----------------------J/K

I guess you can call it a muffler shop. It's a farmer/mechanic that'll do it in his barn for $50 or so. Gotta love small town USA. My sister in law had it done on her 89 Tercel and it made a HUGE difference! Before it ran 0-60 in like 14.5 seconds (3 speed auto) anfd now it probably is around 11-12 seconds. I know that's still slow but DAMN what a diff.

there is nothing like the feeling of Blasting down a Major highway fast lets say ... I-5 in Cali ... moving at about 170 in a ferrari ... thats fun .... jerks who drive while eating/shaving/putting make-up on/ or on a CELL PHONE .. now that is dangerous.
I don't really race. I drive fast very often, but that's different. To be honest, I think if you really want to prove yourself, take it to the track. Some people think they are badass when they can beat another car in a street race; very often exaggerate their victory like killing/smoking a car when they only won by a car length. I'm not implying that you guys are like that, but some people are like that. Try the same thing at the track and it might be a different story. I never try to race at a track before, but from what I heard, it take real skills to do good at the track. Also, you have to factor in conditions such as track condition, weather, sea level, etc. Oh well, like I said, I don't really race. That's why I'm trying to get myself in autocross. That take skills, all the power in the world won't do you good if you can't drive. Hm...hopefully, I'm not setting myself up for that one.
haha im not mr no y-pipe
I want a y-pipe my self actually I kinda want one of the new warpspeed ones. I do think talking of the cat is kinda dumb cuz your just messing up the place for your kids kids and such but i guess every one has there own agenda. Its like somoking a cig in your living room to me just making the place gross for other people b/c you dont care. Haha i know next time I get the .org Ill probably have all kinda of crap about that. I guess I should have though twice before I posted the thread about racing. I thought the people here were higher class I guess. I bought the max b/c I thought it was a cool car and didnt associate me with all the dorks reving there engines at the quick stop, blairing there systems, and racing down the streets. I guess we cant always be right.
Hey all i gotta say is to each his own. You dont like people street racing thats fine, its illegal and shouldnt be done anyways. Hell in california isnt it illegal to mod your engine? Yet the most modded cars are out there.
If you feel somehow your maxima is tarnished cause there are people out there that street race, your just plain blind to the fact that people in every kind of car race. Hell i had a guy try to race me in a damned eighties OLDS stationwagon one time. I dont think people are gonna look down on your car cause someone else street races their max, thats plain stupid. And if they do, who cares!! I could care less about what others think. If i listened to everyone else i would be driving a hybrid honda or a mustang. In florida there are tons of straight streets that are perfectly safe for racing. Well your only putting your life in danger but thats the price you pay. As long as you use common sense and are alert you wont have any problems.
I street race all the time. However, i never run redlights, i use my turning signal, i dont tailgate and i follow all other rules. I have been doing it for a while, street racing that is.
I like it.
I like smoking cigarettes.
I like having sex with beautiful women.
I like america cause i can do these things freely.
I dont like when people try to be the judge of everyone and take away the things i like.
I dont like cops.
I know street racing is illegal and isnt one of my rights.
I still do it.
I dont care.

you guys get too worked up
I wasnt trying to take away your freedom for hurt your self just making the point that no matter how good of a race car driver you are in ur maxima its just a dumb thing to do in town. Sorry if i upset you
In regard to class status: there is one thing I have learned and you should too-there are all types of classes of people driving all types of cars. Today any moron can buy/drive a semi-expensive car (up to $50,000 value) b/c of leasing. Therefore, Maxima owners are across the board in their "class status" along with most other types of vehicle owners. In fact, Warren Buffet drives a Ford Taurus.
Class as in education or the lack thereof, get it
has nothing to do with money dude. I agree with FSUmax. Read the posts, racing is not only illegal, it endangers innocent people. At least a few times a year I hear news stories where people are killed as a result of this. You want to die go ahead, but leave the innocent bystanders out of it. In one of the responses above the dude talking about how good he is at it goes on to say that the racer's are the ones putting themselves at risk. This is true but you also put others at risk get it.
Street racing is mostly a juvenile thing. Juveniles don't like to learn from other's experiences, they think they are invinsible and it can't happen to them. Those who will respond directly to this post and disagree are juvenile.
Racing is for the track. Check out my homepage and see how real enthusiasts do it. By the way, the homepage is not mine it belongs to some friends of mine whom I am happy to know. I was co-pilot in the black 50 Rocket 88 at the 1992 event.

I like street racing. In replay to the original post I don't pretend that I am a race car driver on a track because I'm not. Street racing *personal opinon, not to affend anyone* takes more ***** then track racing. And I don't think it says anywhere that it is illegal. Breaking the speed limit and reckless driving are both illegal. Also what good is that Y-pipe going to do for you? help you merge with traffic faster or take off from a stop light faster. Thats what most street races are anyways: taking off fast from a stoplight and pulling the other dude to the next one. Theres no sense in modding out your car if you never get to see the mods in action. These are just my feelings. I started a thresd about street racing a while back (RASR to be specific). So we all no where I stand.

I drove to school that morning with a light *** rear wheel drive car. It snowed about 3" when I was at school. On the way home I hit a patch of Ice (driving at 25mph). I couldn't countersteer it because the front wheels lost all traction. It wasn't like I was racing someone in the snow. So if you don't know the whole story then don't make a stupid f**ckin comment like that, thank you. I didn't say you had no ***** for not racing. I simplty stated my opinion. So there was no need to make a personal attack. This is an open forum right. So everyone has there right to an opinion.
I just recently got into street racing. It really is a thrill just to know that you are doing something illegal. As far as my advocating it, I don't know that I would try. I would say that the group that I go with is fairly safe. We go pick out abandoned straight streets where there is no traffic late at night/early morning. The tracks are not usually long enough to get serious speed anyways. The race is over by 60-70 mph or so. Whoever pulls ahead will flash his hazards and that is the winner. The winner slows down and its over. I wouldn't mind going to a track and doing the same thing but there are several reasons that just doesn't work. In Seattle, there is one 1/4 mile track, only open during the summer. Thanks to lawyers, not only is the cost up there but you have to have a bunch of safety equipment. The operation is done with infinitely more beaurocracy than illegal street racing. With street racing, you just line up and go. On a track, you have to sign all kinds of releases, have special insurance, helmet, etc. The police in Seattle consider street racing to be a real big problem. I think what they should do is close down a street and let us race late at night. They should just turn a blind eye to it and say that its at your own risk. We don't want the beauracracy and the costs. If there is anything that we as street racers should do to promote more safety is to keep the spectators back away from the line farther so they won't get hurt if a racer lost control. I love the thrill of lining up with other cars for one purpose. I will go to the real track this summer, to get a timeslip while I am still stock to post as the real 1/4 time for a stock 92 SE 5 sp. (hoping for 15.4 or better)
dang
first u diss y pipes now streetracing. i personally think yur a tree huggin fagg0t. ive been streetracing ever since i first saw it in sj. fell in love with it too. where i live the track is only open on a tuesday night thts a school night for me and im not allowed out. street racing on a empty street at fricken 1am in the morning isnt dangerous to the public just us. we put ourself in risk and our cars tht are buissness not yurs u dont like it go drive off a cliff with yur "merging in traffic" maxima. u sound like a little mommas boi tht needs a *** whippin. ps tht f*** up what u said about tht guy tht hit a tree. personally i think yur a disgrace to the maxima not us
He made millions after inventing the food buffet line...

I agree street racing is bad
Its funny to me how some can say "keep it on the track" but how many actually goto the track. In my maxima I had over 35 passes at the track. Out of that 35 only 7 cars were simular to the ones I line up against on the street. Yes its illegal but so is drinking alcohol and getting behind the wheel. One thing is for sure for every person in a court room caught for street racing there is atleast 5 other people that run redlights/stop signs, speed in school zones, DUI and so on. I figure if someone hates street racing, they should hate others that constantly run redlights/stop signs. Matter of fact over 70% of the fatal car crashes are below 40mph, even then another 40% of them don't even wear seatbelts
. Basically when street racing you take the risk into your own hands, otherwise if your involved in a bad car crash there is usually nothing you could have done.

If he doesn't knw who Warren Buffet is, then he definately won't know anything about Berksire Hathaway(do a search on that for more on Warren Buffet). As for street racing, bad, but in a good way. For the most part, I see if I can jump people that insist on getting to the right of me at a stoplight on a one lane street. Nothing like a sprighty Max or the great low end torque of a 7.3L PowerStroke to get people
But it always ends somewhere around the speed limit, at least on city street for me.
But it always ends somewhere around the speed limit, at least on city street for me.
I street race whenever possible. Theres a difference between drag racing on the streets and weaving through traffic. Think about it. Street drag racing is basicall 2 cars acclerating as fast as possible going straight (for the most part). Anybody who has raced knows when is a good time and when its a bad time to race. Racing at 5pm, bad idea. Racing at 11pm, better idea. Everyone who races isnt some dumbass who knows how to push the pedal to the floor. I dont think anyone really goes out to race and hopes they can put a lot of lives at risk.
Going back to the Grandma senario...I have had something similar happen to me.I was racing a newer Grand Am GT when I had my '95 Beretta Z26. We were racing street light to street light when we come up on an intersection with a car waiting to turn. The car keeps inching up and inching up. I brake to let the car turn, but it stops. I punch it again and the car starts turning right in front of me. I slam on the brakes and all the weight shifts to the front of the car, the back end kicks out and i have to let up on the brakes them slam them again so I wont slam into this car. Im not proud of this, but it sure makes a good story.
Also, when I race, my adrenaline pumps like crazy. Now its a scientific fact that all our sense become sharper when adrenaline starts pumping. I become more aware of my surroundings and I notice things that I might have ordinarily missed.
BTW- I know who Warren Buffet is. I guess it doesnt count that I live in Omaha.
