Wow, Jaime very nice, so did you upload the pics yet? I'm very interested in seeing the vids....question, with the mevi, if you aren't taking it to the 7000 rpm range is it still beneficial to have?

When you say "7000 rpm range" do you mean red line or 7000 rpm?

The only way to get it to 7000 rpm is an aftermarket ecu.

And the main reason jay does not take it to redline, is due to he will be running LEAN.

And yes the MEVI with a 6500 rpm limit is still worthwhile to have.

if you have not looked at the 4th gen FAQ, there is tons of info about this

Not in my case... this is what my dyno looks like after installing the MEVI (no JWT ECU yet):

Mods:
Blue lines: y-pipe, b-pipe (186HP, 197TQ) - Feb 2003
Red lines: y-pipe, b-pipe, JWT cone, MEVI (186HP, 180TQ) - June 2003

But that's still a lot of midrange to give up... the loss shows up in the 1/4 mile... but if I was to race off a roll on the highway, that loss in midrange is not a factor... MEVI truly owns then!

It is interesting to note that those dynos were performed on dynojet machines, but different ones. I know that could be part of the reason the difference is so huge, but none-the-less, this is what I have on paper now. I am now settled with one dyno shop so all future dynos should be accurate. Some people believe that this shop (red line) reads lower... so who knows.

well some reason i thought he had an aftermarket ecu....that's why i was curious why he was shifting at 6k...i was scared being in the passenger seat when we hit 10 psi's with his s/c...i can't imagine what the turbo feels like, well we were on that little short strip of road....remember that Jaime? :-D

Back before I had boost with my VI I lost about 15 WTW in the midrange, but picked up 7 PEAK WHP.

I understand your frustration.

How ever, using 2 different machines is not a good comparison.

What time of year was the 1st dyno? summer?

what about the 2nd dyno?

No intake?

sorry to jack your thread jay

Yeah I know different machines is not a good comparison. That wasn't my intention but circumstances forced me to switch shops.

I listed the time of year above - the first dyno was in Feb 2003 (65 deg) and the next was in June 2003 (89 deg). The correction factor was there... but I don't really trust those. I will dyno again soon since it is much cooler now and see what the results are like.

The first dyno with the higher numbers were with stock box... only mods were ypipe and bpipe (I listed the mods above as well) and the second dyno added the MEVI and JWT cone.

Hope this wait that is going on 9 or 10 weeks now is really worth it for that JWT ECU!!!

I shift at 5900RPMs to maybe 6100 being scared that I am lean up top. If you remember when I got to redline the car planted you to the seat? well with the turbo it pins you down right around 3500RPMs and full boost right around 38-4K and is on from there. I dont lose anything from the MEVI because it is like having the SCer with Nitrous. Thats why I went Ballbearing turbo. Big but spools up right in the middle somewhere.

I am out to buy a new camcorder with firewire, this $1400.00 POS that I bought in Japan has no firewire, I can get the vid up but no sound so thats worthless, we need sound to enjoy.

I'm a convert like Jaime also, had the SC, decided that there needed to be more and sold it.

Not of the setup I'm working on right now for my car, no. Only pics on my website are of the turbo setup we built for Jason's car.

http://www.evolution-autodesign.com/projects/max2.htm

I'll post all pics when I'm done: before, during, and after. It's significantly different from Jason's though there will be lots of similarities.

I am pretty happy with the torque. When you want more and get greedee thats when you start breaking stuff. EX: axles, have to go buy one, raced a EVO from a deadstop and he just kept wanting some more.
