Aftermarket Purchase Poll!!!

If given a choice of purchasing aftermarket accessories etc. from a local performance store or over the internet/mail order magazines, which would you choose and why. Keep in mind that prices may vary. Typically items bought at a local performance store may be between 10-20% higher.

I always prefer paying at a store w/ cash. It's the EASIEST way to make a transaction and keeping the receipt is the customers responsibility.

Cost on items will all depend on price per capita and all that other confusing business stuff.

Wayne, if you're serious about a shop, I'll work for you!

I would prefer to buy at a local store, but right now 99% of my purchasing is done through the internet. For me, it's 30-50% cheaper to go through the internent, plus the local stores around here aren't that friendly or helpful. If it were only a 10% difference, I'd probably buy from a local store.

I disagree w/you. Stores here in Atl have been helpful. I know when I have gone to NOPI the 4-5 times they were more then helpful. I also go to barnetts performance and when I was working on oil return issues for the maxima they were more then helpful many many times. I also go to a Hotrod place here in Marietta and thats where I get my redline oil from. Once again helpful. Even Autozone and NAPA have bailed me out many many times and many others here on the org.

I have to agree with Jeff92se and Shadow. I purchase all my parts online for the simple fact that they are cheaper and the local shops dont cater to maximas, and if they were to get the part for you they would order it and would cost more once they get their percent from who they order it from. Id like to be able to go to a local shop and pick up preformance parts for a good price and not have to wait on shipping, but its on feasable in my area.

Thus far I have purchased my mods from Cattman. They are knowledgable and polite. Cattman products are high quality and the offer excellent support.

I'am fortunate enough to live 15 mins from Southwest Autoworks, so Im partial to going to the store and buying. Besides I hate waiting for stuff ordered over the internet due in part to my ridiculous impatience...

Lucky you 15mins away from SWA works. In the spur of the moment I have dealt with impatient people. I must have my car up and running right now. If it was not for autozone on a sunday, my car would have never been up and running that sameday. Specially if you have only one car as your daily driver.

I’m just sick of using the internet for performance part because I have no other options. I waited 3 week for a part for my car, no one told me that it will not work on its own. The other part that goes with it is $99.00. Now I couldn’t help but to think if I had a performance store to walk into and was able to talk to someone this could have been avoided, so now I faced with a restocking fee or spend another $100 for what I need.

Misc. items, wire, splicing tool, crimp sets, fuses, vacuum canisters etc...local stores

Actual mods, internet or .org members

I have one local speed shop which I priced some nitrous accessories from and they tried to a.s.s. rape me.

They did com down in price when I showed them internet cost for some of the same items.

Here the local shops are too into Honda's, Mitsubishi's, Toyota's ect. so.....Ebay has been my best friend, then comes NAPA, Autozone, and of course Home Depot. If the shops around here had half a brain maybe I'd buy from them. Funny thing is I have a hell of a hook up, but they aren't off the ground yet.

INJEN: Local shop 320
INJEN: GD in the .org 220

RSB: local shop 250
RSB: GD in the .org 120

you have to wait a week or two on both scenarios because most perf shops do not stock maxima mods.

All I've heard form the local shops here is "We dont have that, but we can order it for you."

Well, damn, what's the point? I can order it for me too. And probably cheaper and faster than they can. I havent bought any mods for my car from any local shop.

The deals online are usually so good its hard to pass up, and further the people in stores will typically know nothing about a part on my car in particular, which people here seem to know. =)
