failing/clogged cat?

what are the signs of a clogged cat. converter? i have good reason to believe that mine is blocked so badly it is causing a leak where my ypipe/cat connection is. i have tried to fix it by replacing gaskets a couple of times... still no luck... and when i put my test pipe on.. that connection has no leak at all. and i'd leave the test pipe on, but it sounds like crap. and the car idles very badly with the cat on vs. the test pipe... it sounds like it is struggling to keep the idle... is it time for a new cat or a HF cat? i'm having a resonated cat made on monday for a temporary fix until i figure out the problem. thanks.

If the cat is clogged it will start glowing red hot even at idle...Look underneath the car and check...

Does it smell like rotten eggs, or sulfur?? If you smell that it could be gone. Also a loss of power, higher operating temp. than normal...But when you said you replaced the gasket and it still leaks, that gave it away. It needs to be replaced. Might as well go high flow...

Signs of a weak cat.....

No more purring at idle.
Hairballs found on the carpet in the morning.
Eratic behavior.
Chasing of the tail. ( usually in circles)
Chasing of the dog. (if you own one)
Bad smell from urine in the corners of your living room carpet.

And clawed apart furniture.

Does you max experiance any of these symptoms? If not then your cat is probably healthy.
