I was gonna say that the painted grill looks shady, but it also could have been painted professionally by the owner of the car (although if that was the case, it should have been mentioned in the auction), I think it looks good painted white on the white car.

I'd NEVER buy a car from an online auction. IMO, that's the most rediculous thing you can do seeing that you're blindly buying a multi-thousand dollar item.
In a few years I think we'll start seeing online auction companies like Ebay being held partly responsible for problems like this during auctions. Ebay says they "work with customers" to get their money and Ebay will give you back up to $20K if fraud happen, BUT all this is at Ebay's discression and we all know or have read about Ebay dismissing many more claims then accepting them.
I think we'll definately see some new internet law being introduced holding third parties/auction house somewhat acountable and the jurisdiction lines being clearly drawn. It needs to happen.

However, my friend did buy his '01 lightning off ebay. Good truck for the deal (like $21k or something, when 99's could go for $25k or so).

The web has made things efficient--shadiness always will be around. That doesn't relieve buyers from the common sense necessary to complete a transaction. Roofing contractors, used car salespersons, insurance agents, real estate brokers, mortgage brokers, stock traders, they will always argue that there's a reason they are employed. The general public should say fine, but as soon as they step over the line they should become unemployed.

And yeah, I wouldnt buy a car off ebay unless it was local and I could take a look at it. I do want to buy an NSX in the future, and I realize because they are so rare, I would have to buy one from somewhere other than the tri-state aera. In this case, I would have no problem driving (or flying) cross country to inspect, and purchase a car. Buying a car off the internet is no different than buying it in person if you inspect it and drive it as you would any other car.
