I order my new tranny today.

I bought myself my Christmas present today and order my bullet proof tranny from NRH Transmission.

I should have it in about a week.

It is a auto with posey traction and can handle well over 500 hp.

Nice! Good to see there are some automatic enthusiasts left. I am also looking into upgrading my transmission, but a whole rebuild seems a little to expensive to me. :-/ I'm probably looking at a VB mod and torque converter. I just want to be able to handle my power, I'm no concentrating on faster shifts really.

He probably paid in the 3000 range and Cyrus, the VB and torque convertor isnt going to let the tranny hold more power. If anything you putthing a higher stall torque convertor on the stock tranny is going to kill it cause its going to let you launch harder. Its going to kill the clutch bands in the tranny.

Gabe, unfortunately for the auto enthusiasts (fortunately for me) im now 5spd. Im glad you went with Rob at NRH. He's a stand up guy, very good. By the way he prooves it when he stands behind his warranty, my cousin had a tranny rebuilt there, and it broke 7months after that, Rob towed the car to his shop and fixed it and he was back on the road in 2days with ZERO cost.

Besides that hows the car? I aint heard from you in the longest time.

Its a form of Posi-traction. Basically same design but custom made for the Nissan tranny. He actually uses some components from Toyota, I believe the case is one of them.

Considering the cost of an auto->5spd is ~$3K? Plus, if you add the Quaife that's another $1300.

I think $3K for a BULLET-PROOF auto with "posi" isn't that bad considering what you get, ie reliablity, fast shifts, no peg-leg burnouts, better cornering, etc...

Not to mention the key part, Rob GAURANTEES that it is capable of holding in excess of 500hp. And if it breaks, he will fix it at ZERO cost to the customer.

I agree with both of you. I was thinking of getting my auto built at a local transmission shop but will consider NRH, I don't think I will be over 500 once the bottle is hooked up too Do they have a core charge? Could you give me a ball park of what it costs shipped?

Dont know about core charge, but he needs your tranny cause he builds that and modifies that. Im sure there would be a core charge of at least 4-500 if you dont give him one. I remember when I was going to do this, he told me to wait and burn out my tranny first (since he said no point of bring it in now if it is working). So I know he needs something.

Shipping will run about 100-150 each way depending on where you are located from DC area, and if you using Business account or not.

Can a 5spd conversion hold upto 500whp gauranteed? Think about that before you say you couldve done a 5spd.

Also Gabe cant deal with a 5spd, he is a Real Estate Agent and takes clients out at times and he cant talk on the cell and do all the things he does now with his auto if he had a 5spd. He wanted an auto.

You gotta pay to play in this game.

dont get me wrong about this if he wants an auto thats fine but i bet i could take my 5spd tranny have all the gears custom cut out of somthing really strong and then have the whole thing cryoed for less than 3k and it should hold 500hp no problem

Cost was less than $3000, shipping to Texas was $200 and core charge is $750.
You will have to call Rob @ NRH to get a exact quote.

subs1000w: Under boost, I bet I can change thru my gears much quicker than you could ever think of. While talking on the cell phone, scratching myself and eating a taco. lol

Dave B: Basicly it keeps both wheels on the ground . Instead of doing the one wheel burn-out thru 1 & 2nd (like before)

ch13f: Don't know yet but I am planning on haveing everything in place so that if I get the "more power bug" I won't blow my engine or tranny (again)

Most any trannies can hold "500whp". It depends on the rpm the 500whp occurs at. Trannies ARE NOT rated in HP, they're rated in torque because HP is derived from torque vs rpm. A 500whp Maxima (assuming a hefty turbo and some nitrous) will put down about 450-550fwtq@4500rpms in a 1:1 gear (3rd gear). In 1st gear plus the torque multiplication of the torque converter, you'll be putting down ~1800fwtq. I'm pretty certain whatever bands, sprangs, and clutches he uses are not up to the task of holding this massive amount of torque on the shift.

I'm sure this guy builds a good tranny and having a decent LSD always helps (not much at the track though), but I'd be a little concerned when talks about HP when determining how much power the tranny can hold.

So should try to contact that guy who sells that electronic program that locks out the gears and you change gears with yoru cruise control buttons. That should help if you ever want to autocross or do soemthing like that.

your right i bet it will shift faster than me but my manual will rob around 5% less whp than your auto so that could make up for my slightly slower shifting

dave b the bands in the tranny are all kevlar so it would take a hell of alot of torque to break them also he uses bigger gears in the tranny . most of the parts are derived from a supra.

When i finally get my car back from him building my engine i will prove that i can put down 400+hp and torque in a daily driver. He himself said he guarantees i can do it. When i told him i would tool around town a 5psi to save the engine and tranny, he looked ant me and said WHY? keep it at 15 lbs and it will be safe!

Oh and Subs 1000w the shifting loss is also now about the same as a stick
