how far would you drive for a big meet?

If we were to have a very big meet, How far would you drive to it? I know the DC crew and new york crew so far have done 3-4 hour drives for big meets. but how far are you truly willing to drive if we had a meet that lasted the whole weekend? I am willing to plan a big one but I am just trying to figure out where.
I'm trying to plan something where we can have alot of different events over the weekend.

Also do you think its possible that we can get a meet where people from as far as new york , and atlanta could make it to? if so where do you think the midpoint could be?

I would be down for how ever far we go. I went to school in atlanta and I could make that trip at least three times a year (10 hours). Anything less than that with a caravan of Maxima's would be on point. It would be almost like a a Gumball Run. Whenever we do it, i'll definitely have to pick up a V1 or Escort 8500 radar detector because I know how things get with these caravans.

A meet in Kentucky or Tenn would be nice, midwest ppl would make that drive - Tenn being approx 500 miles or 6.5 hours, or Kentucky being 400 miles or 5.5 hours. The south and southeast ppl would have the second worst drive, and the east coast ppl would have to put almost 2K on their odometers for this location...My .02

Maxus 2001 was about 8 hours from MA because we stopped along the way to DC to pick up people along the route. I organized the whole caravan and meeting points. Personally the caravan sucked because there was too many people and some of the people didn't know how to caravan so I stopped doing them.

For a large meets, I'll do the 5 to 6 hour drive because if I do it with other good drivers we could be in DC in less than 6 hours (probably closer to 5).

I think MD/Viginia is a good central spot for east coast, and also KY/Tenn ppl

It would be sweet to have a huge meet

I just had a quick look at a map of the Eastern United States, and I figured, for everyone interested in coming from East of the Mississippi River, the perfect place would be Charleston, WV. The Kentucky, WV, Virginia tri-state area is the best geograpical location taking everybodys trip into consideration, that way nobody has to drive in insane amount of miles. These types of shindigs can only be done with months of planning and preparation.

Charleston, West Virginia gets my vote, KY being no #2.

p.s. ONCE SOLID PLANS ARE MADE FOR AN EAST COAST MEET, THESE SHOULD INCLUDE RENTING OUT A DRAG STRIP, OR AT LEAST INCLUDE SOME SORT OF DRAG STRIP MORNING/AFTERNOON T & T SESSION.

Sorry about the caps, I just wanted to stress the test and tune idea.

Yes i have been looking at several places and yes west virginia seems to be one of the most central places. One of the places that i have looked at so far is the Summit point raceway. However the drive for the atl folks would be 9 to 10 hours. so ii'm looking for something a little further south if possible. Also if we chose this place we would all have to pay 50. to reserve the track for the whole day.

However like i said i am in the process of researching several differnt things and ideas. This will be a weekend meet so there need to be quite a few different things there that we can do.

Keep posting your ideas people!

Anything further than Denver, CO (10 hours) is about as far as I go to the West and pretty much anything further than Nashville, TN (10 hours) is about as far as I go East for a real meet. Us Midwest guys are land locked.

I think I'm going to try and organize a Kansas City Midwest Maxus in June. We have about 40 guys in Kansas City and St Louis, quite a few in Oklahoma, and over 50 in Texas. Anyone can come though. It's not going to be anything terribly special, just a track night, dyno pulls and car show/cook out the next day.

Friday night: Kansas City International Raceway (www.kcir.net) drag racing 6pm-10pm, then hang out at the hotel and/or cruise southern Kansas City.

Saturday: Rent MC Racing (http://www.gomcracing.com) for dyno pulls from 9am to 2pm then to Shawnee Mission Park (http://www.jcprd.com/parks_faciliti...nee_mission.cfm) for a cookout, show off your car, etc from 12pm till 8-9pm.

Sunday: go home and/or stay in KC is see all the attractions like the Plaza, Worlds of Fun, Oceans of Fun, Royals baseball, minor league baseball, go back to Shawnee Mission park, bracket race at KCIR from 12-4pm, etc.

We could get real elaborate, but I figure most people want to keep thier costs low and organizing something really complicated with big deposits never seems to work. It's $20 to race at KCIR, $60 for two dyno pulls (only about 15-17 people would be able to dyno due to time constraints), $12 for shirts, $5 for the shelter rent at the park, and $70-80 a night for a nice hotel room in Johnson County (southern Kansas City, KS -> the nice part of town).

I think I can our KCMaximas.org Nissan dealer to sponsor us plus I think I could get the guys from Warpspeed to come up from Arkansas as another sponser.

Look for info in February.

Any big meets on the east coast would have to be centralized for MA too. I while ago I thought that we should have a big meet at a FL beach.

Charleston is 1000 miles from me.
KC is 670

Decisions decisions..........

I'm down for driving for a full day or so, as long as at least cruising with someone else who understands that the speed limit is there for a reason and that I'm not going to race you just because we both drive maximas.

Dave, you have certainly piqued my interest with that idea. Im sure some IL folk (me) would like to make the drive. As a plus, I wouldn't pay a dime for hotel, have family there

Integrating a dyno/track session and bbq is very smart and will keep everyone busy at all times. As a plus, some good ol' Chicago 16 inch softball can be had at the area park where the bbq is to be had.

Perhaps a thread like this would thrive more in the context of the regional forums, but the upper midwest forum always seems dead.

hmmm, driving an 89 maxima GXE auto... i can see why j/k

Dam, anything more than 6 hours and i'm falling asleep on the wheel. We've had good luck in NJ for east coast meets. West is so spaced out lol thats why u travel down one state and u already been driving like 5 hours. I would travel longer than 6 if we had mad maxima's together, i mean like 300 maxima's coming from east towards KC, but we really need to find something to do besides staring at cars and racing. Some time of game or tourney or female hunt or something.

I think we should be a bit more sensitive when we choose a spot. I mean we have to consider the "reliability challenged Maxima's" on the org. Can you BOOSTED cars actually make it 3-4 hours away w/out being towed?

Just kidding....

Very true. But then again it almost seems like DC is the middle spot. I mean from ATL to DC is about a 650mile drive (9hrs), MA to DC is about 8hrs as Deezo mentioned.

And then KY to DC is about the same 600miles.

Damn and I just moved to ATL. Driving 9hrs is not bad, but its a bit<h when something goes wrong.

for a GOOD meet?> like a 3 day weekend meet, that had a track day, car show...10 hours no problem. My SE-R guys have conventions 1x a year, and they are all over the country. the last one was in alabama, and we drove there from NY. Make it worth while, and people will show!

Core, you know how we roll in the Metro...for a simple little Tuesday night Hooters get-together, we pulled in damn near 20 Max's; for a Richmond BBQ, we were 40+ deep.

Name the site: DC, VA, MD, WV, KY, TN, whatever. The farthest I've driven was DC-Louisville...wasn't that bad ('cept it was in a Saturn ). I'd like to meet some of the Midwest & South peeps and see what they've done to their rides.

Plus, read the sig...

And where was the previous Maxus in '01?

Jacksonville Florida sounds fantastic!!!

I drove to atlanta one time for a meet, I also was there to get a custom turbo setup, but really it was all for the meet

I would trailer my car to a meet more than 20 minutes away..

Maxus 2000, I drove over 800 miles one way from Tulsa, OK to Atlanta... About 15 hours by the time you count traffic, time zones, construction, 1-lane farm roads between Nashville and Birmingham (Dammit, I'm going through Memphis from now on!), pit stops, etc... 14 hours actual seat time.

Would I do it again? Hell yeah! that was one of the best weekends I'd had in a loooong time.

If people would quit whining about what they DON'T want to do, and let some people plan something cool, then lots of people can enjoy.. but if everyone is going to sit there and complain about "the weather there sucks" or "there's no road course there" or "it's too far for the boosted Maxes to drive" or "there's more people in the NE so it should be there"

Just plan a meet, and people will show. It's easy enough.
