Planning to do a 5 speed swap in your future? take this advice from me and others
As some of you guys know, I have a 2nd max. Yes its a auto
, I can just press on the pedal and drive. I only owned the car for like 4 months and the auto tranny croaked. Moral of the story a 5 speed swap can be done in 1 day to 2 days if you have all the parts. Order your parts like all the hydraulic lines in advance so you can get on w/your project. I just ordered my parts and they dont have any in stock
. I cant tear my **** apart until I get half of those parts in. I can install the tranny, clutch flywheel but its a pain getting to those lines from the outside in. Much easier from the inside of the engine bay.

do you have a picture of that id like to maybe do this to eliminate the wierd coil hard line above the tranny
to all you people who have done the swap, i bow down. hopefully one day i can either get a 5spd max or afford to swap mine. i'm happy with mine in the meantime though. you're all true enthusiast who do that on your own!
Whats the real reason for the stock hydraulic lines being super long snd spiral? only things I can think of is that the super long line either act as a fluid resovior to store more fluid or that the large ammount of fluid acts as a damper to dampen vibration so you wont feel it vibrate at the clutch pedal
Make sure the tranny you get is in perfect working condition.
Another thing is to buy as many new parts from Nissan as you can afford. Having new parts is better for obvious reasons, but also for piece of mind. If nothing else, be sure to get a new master cylinder.

who should I get to do my swap when the time comes
I've got a '96 auto and I'm gonna do a swap as soon as I save up the cash. I dont have the know how to do it myself (though I wish I did). will any general mechanic do a good job or should I get a tranny place to do it or what???? And how much should I expect to pay in labor charges???
Thanks people

There was one thing that we thought was gonna hold us up. That banjo bolt with the hole through it. I didnt have it. Totally forgot about it. I wasnt gonna be able to get one for about 4-5 days but for some odd reason "LUCKY FOR ONCE" he found one after looking through alot of crap for about 25 minutes. Wasnt for my car but it worked. No problems as of today. "knock on wood"
I've been thinking about the possiblilty of doing the conversion as well. I wouldn't want to get into it until this coming summer. That gives me a good 6-7 months to learn about it, and look for parts. One thing I was thinking about is a Nissan OEM 5spd LSD tranny, like out of an I30 5spd. I know they are rare, but since I've got some time, why not try? I've heard that they might not be as "strong" (if you can call a nissan tranny strong, heh) as the non LSD version. Is there any truth to that? And aside from the tranny itself, and the different axles it uses, are there any increased costs associated with that? Any other reasons not to bother with the LSD tranny? I just can't justify spending $1k for a Quaife or Shadow's LSD on top of the cost of the conversion all in one blow. Would having the OEM LSD prevent me from going to a Quaife, etc later on?
bushings
Which bushings are you talking about? on the energy suspension.com site I see atleast two kinds, control arm bushings, ANTI-SWAY BAR (Stabilizer Bar) END LINKS & BUSHINGS, STRUT ROD BUSHINGS. please give me more info so I can fix this problem. Thank you everyone

The quaife is the best LSD out there. Lifetime warranty and is all gear driven. The downfall. That fcker is heavy. At least 3 lbs heavier then shadows LSD. I have installed three so far. Theres nothing wrong with his LSDS. He cryotreats the complete thing after installing that sandwich adapter.
For those who are totally clueless about what parts are needed Ill take some pics and name of the parts needed. I will also post the part numbers to the hydraulic hoses.
