Not everyone has the money for a hid fog light kit so therefor the next best thing is yellow fogs. I think it looks good on a maxima.

It has nothing to do with being "a flashy-pants Toyota".

The idiocy of some people.
Idiocy? Thanks for the personal comment. I've done plenty of nightime stump-jumping to know that yellows work a lot better than clears. My point is, they look stupid on Maxima's, and 90% of people wouldn't be able to notice improved visability from clears to yellows. I had them on my 85 King Cab, my brother had them on his 79 Bronco, my dad had them on his 91 Rodeo, his 95 Blazer, and his 02 RX300. Point is, the reasoning for most people to do it to their Maxima is not related to improved visablility. This thread says "do you want Lexus yellow in your fog lights but don't want to spend the $$$", not " Yellow fogs make it easier to see in fog and rain, Lexus has them, why not our Maximas?".

like I said, it's not about improved visability, genius (No offense Ant, just tryin to prove a point, thanks again for the factory clear fogs, they look sweet!!).

No on my old TL, I had 5000k halogen light bulbs for the headlights, and it never showed up aswell on the darkers surfaces (tar roads), but with my Yellow factory foglights, it kind of evened out things and the roads were a little more visable. The 5000k lights were only good for signs, cement roads, snow, and ice (theres alot of that here so thats why i got them).

they work the same as city lights. they come in a h4, h3 housing stub for mounting. when your fogs burn out, just buy the $2-4 replacement bulb from auto zone.
I'd much rather have white lights than yellow lights. Yellow lights have been around forever.

And the reason is because you can see better with yellow lights.

I see. Where do you fall in this area? Ricer or goober? I justify what I spend on anything for my car by what I get for my money. It doesn't matter what the color is to me if I want it and can afford it.

I agree that the Old Hella Yellowstars were the best yellow bulb on the market. . . And they were only $15/pair. . . If I would have known that they were going to change them I would have bought a few more pair just for when they burnt out.

[QUOTE=1SICKLEX]Me, I think the yellow fog look is a Lexus trademark, you can tell it's an ES/GS/IS a mile away. I hate when I look up thinking it's a Lexus and come to find out it's another car with yellow fogs.

You're kidding, right? Yellow fogs are a Lexus trademark? Damn, now I feel like a big poser when I drive my 1970 Triumph GT6+ with its STOCK yellow Hellas.....

I lived in Italy for several years and almost all the cars have yellow fogs....why is this? No, not for style or looks. It's because YELLOW LIGHTS "CUT" THROUGH FOG BETTER THAN NORMAL LENSES.

While this is true, most of the people who do the yellow lexus fog light mod don't do it for improved visibility. They do it so their car can look like an IS300. Maybe if you lived in San Francisco or something........

Interesting note on the Pathfinder/Infiniti foglights. Something I'd look into.

With regards to the Maxima's foghlights, applicable only to the 4th. gen, the foglights are basically useless FOR FOUL WEATHER DRIVING. No matter how well aimed they are or what bulb you use, the reflector and optics are poor. If you compare it to a real set of Cibie/Marchal foglights, you'll see what a fog beam is supposed to look like and illuminate. The best I've gotten is some light in front of the car to makeup the foreground illumination in the front that the headlamps don't provide, and some illumination on the sides of the car. I have the CATZ H3 HID kit, as well.

50 watts of halogen lighting is a lot of lighting power, usable only if contained in an enclosure with the proper optics.

I don't know if the foghlights on the 5th. or 6th. gen is any better.

just some food for thought.

yes well, it DOES happen to be foggy here

mainly where i drive is in the city, daly city, down to monteray sometimes, etc... all very foggy places. Its an alright look, but i wouldnt do it to my maxima just because its so damn stylish, it doesnt do much for a maxima IMO.

5th gen are useless for every driving condition. i can vouch for that. i am considering changing them with some aftermarket ones, before next winter. just haven't gotten to it yet.

...and having all 'superwhite' bluish bulbs everywhere is original? Personally I like the Lexus look, but mainly did it b/c yellow fogs actually help in the rain/fog whereas superwhite ones lower visibility. It gets like that once inawhile here in Seattle.

In any case, good find on these sleeves, I'd like to see how they look installed on someone's Max...

The film seems to work well, and I like that it protects the glass. The only thing that would keep me from using that option is that it makes your fogs yellow even in the day.

Did you have to upgrade the harness to run 85w bulbs?

The fog light harness is supposedly a good bit more durable than the headlight harness in terms of it's ability to handle higher wattages / heat. I haven't heard of anyone having problems except with cracked lenses.

you mean instead of fog lights? Pointed at an odd angle, and not bright enough, even with a rewire.

I agree with Dixit on PIAA Crystal Ion bulbs is the best yellow fogs option without going with other 85w bulbs.

The point of amber fogs is better poor weather visibility, period. Your anecdotal "nighttime stump-jumping" experience supports an empirically verifiable fact. Who friggin' cares what "the reasoning for most people to do it" might be. Physics can be a pain in the *** that way.

And the point is also not "do you want 'Lexus yellow'...", because anybody who has the slightest knowledge about cars should be LMAO at the very idea of "Lexus yellow" Give me a friggin break already. Yeah, I can picture the scene during Monday morning's staff meeting:

Lexus Engineer #1: "So I was thinking about lights over the weekend. Yeah, I've got degrees in industrial design and physics hanging over my desk, but my heart tells me that the most important factor to consider for these lights is how they'll look. I mean, what will *really* set us apart from the other Luxury makes? Then it hit me! Amber fogs, mang! I mean, people will just go nuts over these!"

Lexus Manager #1: "You're fired."
