converting 9007 to 9004 headlight? possible?

i posted this on the electronics section, but just wanted to see if anyone here had any input...

anyone know if this is possible?

I just got rid of the max (got company car) - I have a HID kit for 9004 lights, but my company vehicle has 9007 bulbs... anyone know if there is a way to convert the 9007 harness to a 9004 so that I can run my HID kit?

by the way... I believe the difference is one pin on the harness -- (2 pins on the 9004 and 3 on the 9007)

any help would be appreciated!

thanks,
Randy

Is it possible to change the harness for the light. By this I mean changing the 9007 harnesses for 9004 harnesses.

that's what i'm not sure about... that's essentially why i'm wondering if there is:

-a way to convert/modify the 9007 socket to accept the 9004 harness?
-a harness available to change the 9007 socket to fit 9004 setups?
etc....

all i know at this point, is that the base of the 9004 and the 9007 bulbs look similar, except for the fact that there are 2 pins in the 9004 base/bulb and 3 in the 9007 base/bulb... when the 9004 bulb is 'locked-in' to the 9007 socket, nothing works...

What people do with the E36 healight conversions for the 3rd gens are probably using stock wiring just do a little splicing here and there to make the 9005 and 9006 lights work. They could also just change the wiring from the relay all the way to the headlights. You may just have to do that.

well... i guess i'll have to do a little research on the wiring of a 9007 vs. a 9004 and then go from there... i was just wondering if anyone else in the past had had a similar situation and had a solution.

i really would love to be able to still use the kit... otherwise, i'm not sure what i'm going to do with it!

thanks for the input Turdlett

the 2 sockets are the same. the only difference is which of the 3 wires does what. One is a ground, one is low beam, and the last is high beam. all you have to do is rewire them.

hey maxima10to1... you wouldn't happen to know which leads/pins on the 9004 and 9007 socket/bulbs are the ground, high, low etc. FOR rewiring purposes?

thanks!

i converted from 9004 to h4 without any major modifications, so you should be able to do this too. . . take your time and you'll figure it out...

yeah... got it..... after testing the wires on the 9007 for ground, high, low, etc. i was able to then modify the 9004 hid harness so that it is essentially plug-n-play on the 9007 harness...

i'm all set...

thanks for the replies

yeah... the beam pattern is a little off, but better than it was in the 9004 housing... just had to aim the lens down slightly
