UDP Install: Factory oil seal replacement?...

Well I was planning on installing my Motostorm UDP tomorrow but I guess that's not going to happen anymore. The instructions say it is crucial that I replace the factory oil seal, which I am assuming I will have to order from the dealer. Can anyone tell me about how much this runs? Also did anyone do this without doing so and what are the consequences? Is it possible to pick one up from Advance AutoParts?
Thanks,
-Cyrus

i assume your talking about the crankshaft seal..it is good to replace it..when i installed my udp on my 3rd gen ve, a month later, little bit of oil started seeking out through the seal..i got mines from napa for $38..my car is in the shop right now and they are replacing it so i dont know if its difficult or not to change it..
hope this helps...

Well it's the rubber seal that goes behind the UDP, it seals oil in the crankshaft from leaking between it and the UDP. No UDP to my knowledge comes with this, but they all advise it. It is a $7 part from Nissan, I just don't think they'll have one in stock.

Yeah, it's $5-7 from your nissan dealer. Surprisingly, mine had it in stock.

They should have it in stock because I think that's a seal that's prone to leaking on a lot of Maximas. It's only $6 and takes about 10 seconds to remove so definately do it. Once you get done cursing at how hard it is to tighten the powersteering belt, you'll be glad you did the seal because taking that crap off again would be a big pain.

Well I am lucky my dealer had it in stock. Ran me $9.97 :-/ but hey I'm not going to argue over $4. Can't wait to get this thing on, I just picked up my Gates belts from CarQuest, some anti-seize, and a 19mm socket.

I replaced mine when I did my pulley and had no problems since, and I got it for about $9 shipped from the Nissan Dealer.
