Rear Brakes Rubbing
I have a GENERAL question that happens to pertain to my mom's 03 I35 with 14k miles on it. Her rear brakes have been rubbing, no question about it. The rear wheels have always had more brake dust and now the pads are low and the right rear is squealing. So when I take this problem in to the dealer on Monday do I have the right to new rear pads for free? Anyone had any experience with this? Also, do the pads that come stock on I35's have squealers?
You know, I'm wondering if this is a common phenomena.. At about 28k miles, my mom's 03 Maxima had a problem where the rear brakes started (all of the sudden) making a grinding noise. Pulled them apart and found that the pads were worn down to the metal almost, and that they had gone metal to metal with one of the rotors. If I didn't know any better, I would say that the car was driving around with the e-brake on.
Put on new pads, and after putting on new rotors (Auto Specialty zinc plated xdrilled/slotted), I noticed that the pads were really really close to the rotors, making some noise, even when they werent being applied and the e-brake was off. Calipers seemed fine. Both before and after the work, I did notice lots of extra brake dust back there. There may be too much fluid in the system. I'm going to bleed the brakes soon and see if that leads anywhere. If not, im throwing the stock rotors back on and heading to nissan for waranty work.
