As I pass through 80 mph, either accelerating or decelerating, my steering wheel tends to shimmy
pretty significantly.

I have had the car in for alignment and the dealer
said that the car was within alignment specs.

Does anybody have this problem or no what it could be?
Please help?

Tire Balancing...

Maybe it is your tire that needs balancing. Another possible reason might be really worn struts.

vibration at 80mph

I am having a similar problem when I get to 70mph. New tires, all at proper inflation, and alignment perfect.

My car is at 100k miles and has been driven very carefully (rough roads avoided, no excessive hard braking). I suspect that the struts are starting to get that normal wear. I'm going to check the manual to see the recommended mileage point at which they should be replaced. Could also be the wheel bearings, as someone else suggested.

This may sound odd but when a got a bra for my car it ripped at the bottom and i didn't know it. the bottom part of the bra that was brokin was causing the car to vibrate. The bottom part was hitting the front bumper.

Purchased my Max back in Dec. Had the same problem you discribed. Dealer told me just about the same thing. After I had my stock tires replaced with new set of wheels (balanced), the problem went away.
The only conclusion I can make out of my experience is that the old set of tires needed to be balanced.
