The effect is magnified by short trips. The fuel economy of a five mile trip can be 5% to 15% lower in winter.
that's exactly what happened to me cuz i make a lot of short trips from my house to starbux (duh i work there), even in between breaks i drive home. i get about 19.5-20.4 mi/gallon during winter, about 300 miles for 15 gallons. during fall/spring i get about 330-350miles/15 gallons. about 22-23mi/gallon.

i have pretty much all basic maintance from sythentic oil, cleaned throttle, cleaned K&N filter, changed sparks and O2s, ECT sensor new... except knock sensor is still half working (no CEL, just ghost code)

Chicago has WINTER GAS from mid-sept til mid-april, 7 months out of the year. Although it doesn't really seem to make a difference while it's still warm outside, it does change as soon as the temps get in the 20's. Changing oil while it's 5 below is most fun.
