break in and now a hit and run....

Last Sunday someone broke into my car, heres the thread about that:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=282910
Friday to Sunday was my senior class trip, it was in upper state NY. The max was sitting outside my house and on Saturday around 3-4am, someone crashes into it. They hit the driver side door and quarter panel and the impact got the right front wheel onto the curb. The alignment was really off and im not sure if the suspension was damaged. Im so ****ed off, I cant believe this...its my first car and I only had it for 3-4months. The car is at the shop right now waiting for the adjusters from my insurance company to come look at it. I was able to figure out that it was a white 94-98 mustang from the corner light. Heres the pics...

omg dude life ain't fair. but that's a lot of force to kick the car up the curb on dry pavement.. so considering this, body damage isn't as severe as one would think.

Impenetrable glass

I was doing some research after hearing about these glass break ins.

Turns out that there is a Canadian company that specializes in vehicle, residential and commercial glass.

I found their USA division here: http://www.usace.com/about_ace.html

From the videos and testing of the product, its quite amazing. It won't allow a rock, bottle, chain, bat or crowbar to penetrate the glass. Some of the thicker films stop small arms fire as well.

It's 1/10th. the cost of bulletproof glass. I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather spend a few hundreds bucks securing my car than finding busted glass.

The video here is just amazing:

Preliminary product info here:
http://www.smashandgrab.com/products.html

Their USA division is in Upstate, NY. I will be calling them this week to find out how much this film costs and where we can get it installed.

Googling the term, "ACE Security Laminate" will probably be quite rewarding as well for many .ORG members who cannot wait.

As they say most accidents happen within 25 miles of your home. If you have some time drive around this weeken (in another car) and look for a white stang that needs a nose job! When you find it take pics and contact your ins co. so thay can go after them. Sorry about your bad luck as of late, it will turn around for you soon I hope!

Man that sucks. The same type of thing happened to me on an old stanza. Some guy at 11pm at night, makes a large crash...and drives off limping. By the time I got to see it...he was gone. Based on the corner light, I was able to determine the manufacturer of the vehicle. I went driving around at night with a flashlight...but didn't find anything. In the morning, I went again...and in about 30 mins...I found a guy replacing his tire...the same corner lense was gone...and I called the cops. Got his insurance to pay and could have pressed charges (tho the guy now knows where i live), but was happy to receive a good amount of money for repairs on an old stanza. Have you tried snooping around your neighborhood looking for the 'tard?

Do you know roughly when it happened?

If I were you I would call all the local bodyshops to see if they are working on a white mustang! "I'm investigating a hit-and-run. Can you tell me if you are currently working on a 94-98 Ford Mustang?" Then do a tour of the area looking for any white mustangs in that model year range and check them for damage or recent repair to that corner.

Even if you find him you're pretty much going to need a confession, though. If you find a suspect vehicle then hand it over to the police and see if they scare him into confessing... It's prolly some kid who doesn't want his parents to find out...

Also, go driving around your local ricer hangouts at 3-4am. What are the changes it's a local street punk.

Also you have any bars open that late? Drive around all the bars within 5 miles of your place at 2am and look at white mustangs...

That remind me - I need to start carrying around a broken blnker lens for a Honda Accord. THat way if I'm in a hit-and-run I can toss it out the window at the scene so they follow the false lead and never come near me!

No luck in finding the Mustang. Ill try to call some more places and see if I get anything. The adjuster from my insurance company looked at my car and the estimate is $1910.12 and then a $500 deductible. My friend knows the guy who owns the shop and he should be able to do it for $1400 so I dont have to pay the $500.

Yay! I have my car back. Its fixed and looks good as new. The window I put in got some scratches in it somehow, I think I missed some glass in the weather stripping. I have to go get another one and tint it. Im having some bad luck with this car Someone also hit my rear bumper in the student parking at school. It happened a few weeks ago but I havent really noticed it till now because all the snow. I have no clue who did it. The damage isnt that noticable but a little bit of paint came off its dented.

fixed
