recent surge in newbies?

I have been reading a lot of post or at least a considerable amount of post in the 5th gen and noticed a lot of newbies (not meant in derogatory terms). Anyone else notice this? Has the maxima bug spread? Are we headed to a honda "civic nation" (if you read import tuner or sport compact you'll know what the hell i'm talking about)? Oh man...

Jk... wouldn't mind for more maxima owners... means more parts and cheaper parts... just like a civic!

I think I'd rather pay more for parts and stand out more than have a bunch of ricers around

Good point but I wouldn't mind having a $1500 bolt on turbo kit either... and less than $500 body kits!

yeah but honestly most of that stuff is crap and it all comes from one plant then each company repacks it, I used to sell some of those body kits but they sucked, once I got one so bad you could almost see through the fiberglass, bottom line you will always get what you pay for.

It would be nice to see the aftermarket grow for maximas but to be honest its kinda nice to be unique and plus everybody sleeps on a maxima.

For every newbie, there's a former .org member who has sold his maxima and bought a Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, Acura, etc....and left the .org.

I'm fairly new here, but I like to think that I'm able to contribute to the .org through my "general" automotive knowledge (I rebuild classis sports cars) and other subjects.

No real danger of becoming like civic owners....1. there are way less maximas on the road than civics. 2. Maxima drivers tend to be a little "higher class" than ricer civic drivers (has alot to do with available $$, etc...) so less likely we will see really cheap-o rice stuff being widespread on maximas....

THats true... but at the same time having a lot of aftermarket parts keeps the market competitive... my friends short shifter for his sr20de cost only $25 (it was a good brand... cant remember). Ours cost more than a hundred - OUCH!
But yeah, kits for under $500 do tend to be cheap... i.e. some of the poorly made saronas. But at least with more body kits... a lil more variety vs the stillen aero or the stillen touring with the kamikaze sides (referring to 5th gen). Hopefully with the introduction of the new octane kit thats coming out for the 5th gen... stillen may reduce thier price... or i might just have to wait till i break up with my girlfriend or i start my true career.

I know I'm pretty new to this board but I think of it this way. Us Maxima owners want to be able to get cheaper parts. Also have our cars sponsored more so when we turn on Speed channel we might see a Max on there getting tuned up. But forget trying to catch up to the Civics with Ricing out our cars that will never happen as long as our cars that are less than 5 years old still cost over 13k. If you look at the Altima site they have been getting a jump in supporters now they are getting a lot more publicity and high end performance parts.

I figured by choosing the maxima I would seperate my self from the local ricers. But I was wrong. There are now maximas in my area with altezzas and big chrome rims on stock suspension. Once any car is cheap enough, tasteless people start to modify them with tasteless mods. If a Lexus GS was available as cheap as a 4th gen maxima, you would see a lot of them kicking around with sh!tty fibreglass big mouth retarded looking body kits, huge wings, etc.

Bottom line...once things get cheaper, they fall into the hands of people who love rice.

IMO a car that has some rice should have at least some real performance mods. My car is a ricer car right now (clear corners), but that is because of some serious warrenty issues.

don't hate on the new guys. this is my 2nd car. I still have my first one, and after seven years, my first vehicle is still running like a champ. I just needed something with a little more class than my beat up hardbody. There is nothing being at an intersection after a nite of clubbing/going out/barhopping, and everyone noticing your ride. hence why I got a max...

People have been modding cars since the long-ago days. Ever seen the movie "Grease" (yeah, the old one with Travolta, etc...)? It was called "souping up" your car back then, but now we call it "modding". Same damn thing!

In 1970 my dad modded his Triumph GT6 (a week after buying it new) with "custom" dashboard, fender mirrors, and quad exhaust (stock was dual). See, you can even rice out a British sportscar......

Modding is all about what you think will look, sound, or perform good. Some people have good taste (and yes, I will include Civic, Accord, Integra drivers in this group) and their mods result in a nice looking, nice-sounding, nice-preforming car.

Others have poor taste, resulting in tacky body kits, giant tails, ugly colors, fart-can exhaust, and stupid "performace" mods (can you say "tornado"?)

Think of it like this: Those who do "good" mods are like people who are good singers.

People who do "ricey" mods are like people who are tone-deaf but still THINK they're good singers!

Not to be rude of 4th gens, but in San Diego they are the civics of any maxima generation. I see a lot of them with the altezzas and sporting some chrome blings, but the really nasty rims you can get from the swapmeet. Im talking nasty... more than a tijuana hooker's crotch. Don't get me wrong though, I think 4th gens are badazz.

when you see a tyte max, it's very very impressive... .it's just a few things about ricers:

a) they don't know any better
b) they don't have enough money to do better
c) they're just dumb

alot of people don't have taste, or the originality to do something unique. They just see stuff on the movies or tv and copy it, regardless of whether it's retarded. They go out and buy the cheap knock off copy of something and say... yeah, i'm in the import scene.
Most people don't have the sense to do anything cool, they just give in to peer pressure, because some idiot with a big mouth says altezza's are cool.
then, there are people that actually really like them.

it's a matter of personal taste. If you're doing something because YOU love it, then more power to you, but if you're doing something because you saw it on tv and said, i'm gonna be cool like them, then you're fool... or rice.

Quite simply - people are either cool or not.

i got rice! altezza and neons all over my car. but i got some real performance and suspension mod. not to mention i haven't spend any $$ on labor on modding. i've done all installation either by myself or with a friend. i attempt to gain most of the knowledge behind every single mod.

I think I'll always be a newb when it comes to my Maxima. I just dont have the time between school and a job to spend on the ORG reading up on the new threads or old ones for that matter. I enjoy the Max its more or less my beater car but it gets me around in style. I think having more younger guys like myself is a good thing for the Maxima community. My style might not be the same as everyone elses but i'd like to think its not rice either.
