I seem to have a strange grinding/ringing noise coming from my engine bay when I accelerate lightly. It does not happen every time, and most of the times that it does happen (8/10 accelerations or so), it is on a straightaway or any uphill road (usually does not happen downhill). It happens at right around 1700-2100 rpm range, and it is not a constant sound - just when I accelerate, so if I'm cruising at those rpm's, there is no sound. Any ideas as to what this could be? It's driving me insane.. only way to not hear it is to turn the music up. If I did not have an aftermarket muffler, I would probably hear it even more.

I have the same noise for a year and the car still runs fine.

Maybe better? I'll see when the tracks in NJ open again.

I figured it out.. I put on the little aluminum bent piece that Frankencar provided, that connects to the intake tubing on one end, and the driver's side strut tower on the other. It makes the intake completely solid, i.e. it doesn't move or sag or anything anymore. The noise is now gone.. I don't have any clue why, but I tested it by taking the metal piece off and the noise came back.
