ATT: Guys w/ Painted Callipers!!!
#1
I recently talked to a local mechanic and I brought up the topic of painting my callipers. I never thaught of this but it kind of makes sence and makes me think twice about painting them now.
He said:
"That by painting the callipers, you create a heat shield. Which prevents the heat created from braking to leave the calliper and prevents improper coolong of the calliper."
"Therefore if you only paint one side of the calliper, this may cause uneaven break wear. Because the side that is painted is getting hotter then the one thats not painded(unpainted side is releasing the heat). The paint on the part that is painted traps the heat in the calliper.
Which cay cause calliper damage in the long run."
Now this is what I was told, what do you guys think? It kinda makes sense to me.

hummm, ive heard about this but not sure if its true. I know Porsche and other makes paint their calipers. My Uncle's Porsche 911 Turbo S has red calipers and he never overheated them yet. He races it at tracks in Canada, Washington and Cali. I have painted red Z calipers and i road race sometimes and havent had a prob with them....

Paint them!
It's very unlikely that painting the calipers will degrade braking performance due to heat build-up. The paint isn't thick enough to offer enough thermal resistance to act as an insulator; in fact, the paint layer may improve heat transfer to the air and surroundings by increasing the surface area of the calipers. Make sure you use high temp (engine) paint.
