Need ideas to mask the LED board inside the tails..[PICS]
Need ideas to mask the LED board inside the tails..[PICS]
Well, just like subject says, IMO it is messy and looks bad with all internals showing through. Top part I am gonna tint anyway but what about the bottom, tint as well, or paint all black inside, or different color, like silver..
Thanks Guys!

Jeph 20: Spraying testors on top... hmm, that might work indeed!!! I'll try that!! Because I was concerned that if I spray then how light will light through, but with testors should work..
MacAlert: No, that is glue, I still did not put them together, but it is my second set of tails since I melted and cracked first one

I did not need the reflector peice because you cannot see the board from the outside. But you can see the LEDS. But that looks really cool.
Initially I planned to put reflecot piece over it, that's why I put boards so deep and only 6 LEDs wide, but now if I am not going to use reflector piece, it would look much nicer if it would be wider, well play around and see when have some time...
Where did you get the LED boards and LEDs, also it would probably look alittle better with more LEDs, I've been thinking about trying that but haven't been able to find the supplies, any help would be cool, Thanks.

Thanks for a tip about not using that testors tint. I'll look for something else, maybe you guys can recommend some product..
I got Star Brite Liquid Electric tape in red color yesterday from Home Depot and will apply it to the lower part of the tails on the board and housing right after I get from college and will post pics asap.
You can get board and copper wires at Radio Shack and LEDs with resistors from eBay, from the guy cwithk (link to his store). He's got best prices on LEDs with resistors out there.
I have less LEDs because I initially planned to put reflector in between that's why I had to place boards deep in the housing, but now I don't like the light output with reflectors so I dicided to leave them out.

How did you get the red part clear like that?
thats exactly what kept me back from doing 96 tials, i did it to 1 light and didnt like it, all i would say is buy transparent paint like people use you red out ambers and spray 2 or 3 coats on the red part. In all it looks like its gona look good.
Or you can try to cut some acrelic lenses like were used to make 97 red and clears back inthe day, but those may defuse the light also to but its worth a shot.

Thanks guys for replies. Monday through Wednesday I am very busy in college so did not have time at all to work with tails other than fix them in place in the housing with some sylicon. First wanted to use screws but they stick out of the housing on the other side and will be in the way when fitting tails back on the car.
I will experiment with reflectors a little more and see if it is fine, otherwise just gonna paint all red inside and out, anyways internals won't be noticable only untill one looks closer.
There are reflector pieces between housing and outer lenses. I took them off.

Kevlo911 reccomended trying the florecent light cover material, that sounds to be the best idea for your situation. Post pics of whatever you test out on them. All us 95/96'ers could use the info!

goodluck!

If you plan on painting the top portion black, I would definately paint the LED boards black to help match the tinted top portion. When I did my 95's tails I simpy tinted the inner housing on all the taillights. The tinted upper and lower portions matched very well and looks pretty hott on my Dark Green Max. As for reflectors I left the stock reflector in the outter taillights and I feel that is all that is needed reflection wise. I will post pics of my taillights during the day time if you would like. You cannot see any of the wiring or inner housings of the taillight, all you see is the LED's laying in the taillights. It resembles the G35's taillights in the fact that they look like "stock tails".

Thanks Nick for input! Please do post pics. I had to put tails project on hold for now, because was crazy busy with classes plus had to urgently change brake pads on rear wheels and ran into some problems, so my car is sitting in garage for now, but I will wait for you to post pics.
P.S. I painted portion of the housing and board red, but it looks not good...

Update!
UPDATE!
Took some pics during day time with and without reflectors. Pics are a little dimmer than it in real. I pretty much made my minf what way I gonna go, guess you'll agree... no reflectors!

Do you know if Testors transparent tint would work?? Maybe no need to order nightshades...
I like having the "smoked" taillight look and I don't really like when people tint the outter taillights because I feel it is too much. I like the more stock looking taillights, thats why I chose to smoke the inner housings with a flat black paint and leave the lenses alone and glossy.

wow.... this thread came back, I actually still did not tint them. Still focking around third week with clutch and changing suspension during the breaks, but hopefully it will end today with the help of my uncle...
