This article bascially talks about the new R35 will get a turbo on a well-know 3L V6, which is possibly our VQ. It states that it will have about 400 ps. It also says that it's possible that a North America version is avalible using the VK45DD on the Cima (Q45) with 400ps also. There will be a six speed manual and also a CVT using the Extroid CVT-M6 technology on the Gloria Ultima-Z in Japan.

That pic in the article is of a V8. There's no reason an aluminum block couldnthandle boost just because its aluminum...

Explain why it can't handle the power? There are quite a few aluminum blocked engines making good power, i mean this is 2001 not 1970. Even the new LS6 in the Z06 vette has an aluminum block and it makes 385 hp and 385 lb-ft. torque. If nissan wanted the Vq to handle 400 hp, its gonna handle 400 hp no problemo.

Is the VQ in maximas an open deck block?

I think what he means is that the VQ would not make 400hp NA. It would need a turbo......and a thin walled aluminum engine isn't always the best choice to boost. HOWEVER...nissan knows what they're doing and as glock said....if they want a 400hp turbo vq they will go ahead and friggin build it. Also....measures such as iron sleves can be fitted into the cylinders to add strenght.
