I have a 99se with H&R, Tokico, RSB, RSTB, FSTB and 17 x 8 wheels with 235/45 Bridgestones. Whatever tire i install on the back quickly becomes bad, the tire starts to howl and make funny sounds. THe problem surfaces after approx 5,000 miles. I have had allignments done at different shops and everything always checks out fine, I know there is no rear adjustment but they say all is in check anyway. I have gone through 3 tires now, 1 goodyear and 2 bridgestones - i give up now and i will not replace the bad tire that is on the back now. Anyone with the above mentioned mods have this problem? I bought this car new and it has never been involved in an accident.

you have done the alignment checks, you might focus on that particular wheel.

Take your car somewhere that has a GSP 9700 balancing machine and have your tires balanced......that machine is capable of finding out of round tires and/or bent rims.

Next, focus on the suspension, particularly your spring or shock....do the bouncy test and maybe a visual inspection....maybe the spring isn't set right?!?

Good luck!

AJ,
Sounds like you need some rear struts. What's the wear pattern on the rear tires? Is it just one or both rear tires? If the wear is patchy, you know dips in and out like a wave, the problem are the rear struts.

I think its just one tire

The struts have about 20k on them. There doesnt appear to be anything wrong with the tire when i feel the thread with my hand nor does it look damaged. It just howls like crazy. It doesnt feel like the car needs struts either, when i push down on the car it doesnt bob. I really dont want to sink any more money into my car so i guess i will just live with it, this could be the reason i need to buy a 2002.

Thanks for you advice.
