Signs of a bad torque converter??
What are the signs of a bad torque converter? My auto tranny has been having some serious issues lately and I think the TC might be part or if not the entire problem. I will probably make a long detailed post next week but here are some of my symptoms:
1. Tranny shifts from 1 to 2 too early
2. 2-3 shift is VERY slow (car stops accelerating while the shift happens)
3. Engine braking is no longer effictive at slowing the car down
4. While on a small incline the car now rolls back where it used to sit still w/o application of brake
Sound like a TC or is my whole tranny about to go?

Torque converters rarely fail. Thay are a vain pump with a locking clutch. The vain pump has no wear parts, the locking clutch can wear down.
Your description points twards a failing transmission or control module, not a TC.

I just thought it might be my TC when someone suggested it in another thread with weird 2-3 shifts. The lack of engine braking that started yesterday afternoon REALLY worries me. If my transmission computer is going out is that just a simple swap? If my VB is going out would an upgrade fix my problem or is the problem somewhere else in the VB? Anyone have any suggestions on where I should go before my tranny quits on me in the middle of nowhere? Can the dealer test the control module or find out if the VB is bad?
